Car description

64½ Mustang collector car in beautiful rare original condition

There are two things that make this car extra rare.

1. It is one of the oldest Mustangs.

2. It is in original like new unmodified condition.

"Gateway Classic Cars" values this car at $24,995.00 (twenty-five thousand). I will let it go for just $18,000.00. This is a private party sale, not a dealer.

This car has a build date of 04-23-1964, just 6-days after they went on sale on 04-17-1964. The 260-V8 engine and the 3 speed Cruise-O-Matic auto-transmission both are excellent. All numbers are correct and matching.

This car is in beautiful condition. No surprise rust under the trunk mat, for example. Inside is like new. This fine car has had only 2 owners in the last 29 years.

This is one of the estimated 4% of the older Mustangs that is unchanged & complete. The early mustangs appear the same as a 1965, but they are different in 115 ways. Originally a mustang body on a modified Falcon frame, the changes were made gradually over several months.

It has the original engine, transmission, Eaton power steering pump, single chamber master cylinder, generator, large horn, original working AM radio, and more. ALL WORK PERFECTLY. The color is the original Wimbleton white with the original factory installed black vinyl top. The inside is black with the original center console. Everything is accurate with the information on the original door plate.

Mechanical repairs have been occasionally done to keep the car in perfect running condition. A new battery ($311 for a reproduction) was installed. This keeps it original as the battery and box are normally changed because this type battery with the bottom hold down lip, is no longer made. The car was painted with lacquer for the original factory look. All parts replaced on this car are correct for very early '64 models.

This car came from the factory with the '65 hood, what Ford called the "improved hood" and headlight bezel, as were the Pace and promotional Mustangs. Even though it is a very early 64½, it is correct on this car as verified by Ford records of the VIN number.

The engine compartment has not been "detailed" but is very clean and shows no leaks, where detailing may remove the evidence of leaks.

From Colin Date's Mustang Restorer's Guide. "I have found that one of biggest stumbling blocks is finding a car that is stock in appearance and content. Finding a car that is in stock original condition (whether it's a genuine survivor or a meticulously restored example) is a rare occurrence. The number modified is staggering." Most cars considered original have various chrome parts installed, special wheels or other items that make them not truly original.

The mileage is a very low 98,894 actual. This may change slightly as the car is occasionally driven.

I suggest an inspection. This classic Mustang can be seen at my home, which is in Indiana near the bridges to downtown Louisville, KY.

Included are the original owner's manual, a full car cover, original jack and a spare tire.
