1968 Ford Galaxie XL Convertible
~California Barn find~Out of a 300 Car collection~Has been in storage for the last 32 years~A nice original Galaxie 500 XL Convertible with a 390NO RESERVE
When it comes to vintage automobiles, California and the West Coast of the United States have always been the most desirable the world over for many reasons; the mild climate and the fact that many automotive trends started in California. The automobile is the perfect technological symbol of American culture, a tangible expression of our quest to level space, time, and class and a reflection of our relentless mobility, social and otherwise. You see automobiles advertised the world over described as California cars because at some point they were in California or drove through California. A true California car is one that was sold new in California and titled in California, one that has the original plates that are on that title is a true California car.We are liquidating a collection of 300 actual California cars. This is a collection that took 70 years to comprise. Most have the original paint and original California licence plates issued to them when they were new.
Up for a NO RESERVE auction is a beautiful 1968 Ford Galaxie XL convertible. This car is in fantastic shape inside and out for a 51 year old convertible. The car was sold new in Dallas, TX shortly thereafter the owner moved and the car was brought to sunny southern California. The car then was moved to northern California in the late 70s and by 1989 it was parked and stored for the next 30 years. Whats cool is this car still has some vintage bumper stickers that can tell a chronological story of the places this car has lived. For instance Hap Jacobs is a legendary surfboardsculptorin Hermosa Beach, California who was one of the first to make boards from fiberglass. 98.5 KOME was and early rock station that was very popular here in the Bay Area in the 70s and 80s, and had a reputation for irreverenceand raunchy fun with shock jocs like Dennis Erectus "don't touch that dial its got KOME on it". In the late 80s shortly before its 30 year slumber, this car was repainted the original Lime Gold. Other than the paint this car is in good original condition esspeically for a 51 year old convertible.

Cosmetically this car looks great. Lime Gold and white with the hideaway headlights sets the car apart from others as a real headturner. The body is straight and rust free. The car had been repainted in the late 80s the originalLime Gold. All the chrome is in good shape and shines nice. All the trim pieces and XL emblems look great and nothing is missing. You may notice the "D" in Ford on the trunk is missing. I do have it and can easily mount back on. The hideaway lights look great and are fully functional. The white convertible top and window are in remarkable condition with no fading or tears.
The interior of this car is all originaland in good shape. Typically a convertible interior that is 51 years old gets pretty beat up due to the frequent exposure to the elements. This car is not a typical 51 convertible. The seats are in good shape, there are a few tears in the drivers seats on the bottom cushions. The back rest and back seats are in great shape with no tears or any real sun damage. The dash and instrumentpanel look great and don't have any cracks. The carpet is also in good shape with no big rips, there are a few small spots but otherwise its in good shape for 51 years old. The passengerkick panel plastic did deteriorate with age, the drivers did not. All the XL door panels are in good shape. All the glass is in good shape with no cracks.
Mechanically this car is in good shape. It does start up and run. As mentioned earlier it had been stored for 30 years. The fuel pump was recently replaced. I would recommendhaving the carburetorserviced. The car has great compression and runs but struggles especiallywhen cold to get fuel. The C6 transmission shifts smooth in all gears and the car brakes like it should. All the lights are functionalas well as the convertible top.NO RESERVE THIS ITEM WILL SELL TO THE FINAL BIDDER!This listing includes well over 100 detailed photos and the vehicle has been described as descriptive as possible. If there is anything that is unclear or additional information is needed please don't hesitate to ask. Please ask any questions before bidding. Please only bid with the intention to own. Bidding then canceling for "entering the wrong amount" will get you blocked from further bidding. Thanks and Good Luck
