Hello everyone and thanks for taking the time to view my listing. This 1985.5 SVO is a very special automobile. Not only does it have very low miles, it is a 1 of 1 Ford employee special order T-Top car. This is a heavily documented survivor that still retains all of its beautiful Jalapeno Red paint. It has been garage kept all of its life and has been perfectly pampered by all of its owners. I'm the third owner and I bought the car from a very close friend who bought the car from the original owner over 15 years ago. I have an AutoCheck history report that I'm happy to share with anyone who is interested. It is consistent with this SVO's history as I know it and it shows the three owners with no accidents or issues just as expected. I've owned the car for several months now and the only reason I'm selling is to help fund a new business venture. I'll do my very best to describe this SVO in great detail and explain what makes this Mustang very special.
History of Ownership
This 1985.5 SVO was ordered at a very specific time because the original owner worked for Ford and knew that the 1986 was to have less horsepower and an ugly third brake light. The original buyer knew exactly what he was doing and knew that he wanted a T-Top car. He placed his order and asked specifically for T-Top doors to be installed during the assembly process. To make sure this happened the way he wanted it, he walked this car down the assembly line as it was being built. He wanted the T-Top doors because he didn't want Cars & Concepts (the company Ford used for their T-Top installations) to have to cut the frame of the coupe doors. You'll notice that the VIN sticker on the door hasn't been tampered with and is obvious proof that this car has always had convertible doors on it. This is also documented by the original owners statement that goes with this SVO. This SVO comes with its original window sticker, bill of sale, and a binder full of documents describing this cars detailed history. According to Ford and the original owner, this is the only one produced with T-Top doors for the T-Top conversion and is one of two T-Top SVOs that supposedly exist in the 1985.5 configuration. Bill Elliott's family owns the other one, but it came with the coupe doors. The T-Tops are perfect and all of the rubber is nice and supple. They even come with beautiful vinyl storage bags for each T-Top. They don't leak nor do they have any wind noise. It literally drives and feels like the 27k miles showing on the odometer. Lastly, I should mention that the original owner installed a very mild cam that he ordered through the Ford dealership although I don't know the brand. It may very well be a Ford cam if they offered or could make such a thing back then. It also has a larger downpipe that bolts to the manifold which was installed at the same time as the cam. There is no weird idling nor is this SVO loud. It acts as if it came from the factory with these options. It runs at 8psi on normal fuel mode and 18psi on premium fuel mode. The original owner owned the car until my friends father purchased it in 2003. At that point, it came to Booneville, Mississippi where it has been ever since. The second owner (a close friend) owned 4 SVOs and was an avid collector of Mustangs and NOS parts. This car was babied by the second owner just as well, if not better than the original owner. It was never driven in the rain and was always kept in the garage under a car cover. I should also mention that this car had the dealer installed "Super Seal" before delivery was taken. That meant that it was undercoated and blacked out during the detail process when it arrived back from Cars and Concepts after the T-Tops were installed. I bought the car from the second owner with plans of keeping the car. I have never thought about selling it until this business opportunity arose. After purchasing this new venture, it's best that I move some of my cars that I've collected over the years. I also have an all original 1986 SVO with only 27 original miles that's still on MSO and heavily documented. That one will be for sale after this one. It is collector/museum grade that really needs to be on display somewhere. With that said, I will now do my best to describe everything I know about this 85.5 SVO.
Exterior
The exterior is in phenomenal condition with no door dings, consistent original paint, and beautiful trim. I did repaint the trim with the original color due to mild fading on the trim and the rear spoiler. Every panel is beautiful with very minor infractions. There are a couple of tiny rock chips on the front bumper and hood. These are very small and very few. You have to look very close to find them. The head lights were ever so slightly faded, so they were replaced with a very expensive brand new NOS set of head lights and corner lights. Talk about hard to find, those corner lights aren't easy to come by. I should mention that when I say slightly faded, I mean that most people wouldn't have had any desire to replace them because they weren't far from perfect, but this NOS set was available, so I went for it. The tail lights show as new. All of the rubber around the doors is nice and supple and do not need to be replaced. The T-Tops are flawless with no water spots, cracks, or problems. They even still have the square Cars & Concepts sticker on each of them. That alone is a testament of how well this Mustang has been kept and maintained. The original paint on the front bumper, both fenders, hood, both doors, roof, quarter panels, deck lid, and rear bumper all look incredible for its age. It is all consistent and excellent. I did do a paint correction on it when I first got the car. This included a very light water sand and buff over the entire car. This made it shine as new and removed any topical imperfections or debris that was on the surface. There is still plenty of paint left on the car and there are no thin spots. It has later model wheels on it as per the original owner, but it does come with the original Porsche style wheels, so the next owner can choose which ones he or she wants to run. They are wheels only with no tires, but they are in excellent condition. All glass is original and has never had any breaks or stars in it.
Interior
The interior of this glorious SVO is in amazing condition for its age. The seats, door panels, and all the other interior trim panels are still supple and in excellent condition. The dash plastic was missing a lot of its original flocking, so I ordered an air powered flocking kit to make it as new. I reflocked the dash myself with the original color material and it turned out great. The dash trim/plastic panels look as new with all of its beautiful furriness now intact. There is a very small imperfection on the drivers side door panel where it was ever so slightly cut with something right below the arm rest. It is about an inch long and doesn't look bad, but it is there if you look for it. The window regulator on the passenger side was very slow, so I replaced the old motor with a brand new one. Now both are equally fast and operate without issue. The center console, shifter, shift boot, radio, and the carpet all look fantastic and without issues. The original floor mats and the original steering wheel look as new and without blemish. The seats have very mild creasing, but have no cracks or issues with the leather. They look just as a 27k mile car should. The upper dash pad is excellent and soft/pliable to the touch just as it should be. It is practically flawless with no cracks or blemishes. The interior should make any particular owner happy.
Undercarriage and Drivetrain
The underbody is in excellent condition with absolutely no rust showing. It was undercoated from new and is pretty much black underneath. The original Koni adjustable shocks are all still intact with no issues and provide a wonderful soft or firm ride (what ever the driver desires). The original 5 lug hubs and original disk brakes are excellent and operate as new. If you didn't know, the SVO was the first Mustang to feature 5 lug hubs with full disk brakes all around. The engine bay looks way better than you'd expect from a 34 year old car. The turbo looks new, the hoses are soft, the engine is beautiful with no leaks or issues anywhere. It has a new Ford battery on it and this SVO has never given me any problems. It has never ran hot, never failed to start, and has never caused me any hardship. It's as reliable as can be. It still retains its original clutch and it shifts as new with no grinding or chatter.
This SVO needs nothing, but a new owner to appreciate it as we have. Please take your time and view all of the pictures below. I've tried my best to take detailed pictures of every angle, so you'll know exactly what the condition is like from a real life perspective. Here are the pictures below:
border="0">
Thank you for taking the time to look at all of the pictures. I hope it is obvious how nice this SVO is. I can't think of a single thing that it needs and I can't imagine anything that the next owner would be disappointed in. As always, you are more than welcome to come by and view the car in person before the listing ends. This is an automobile that I wouldn't be afraid to drive anywhere. It is a very rare and special car that has always been treated as such. It is being sold as-is of course and without warranty, but the car speaks for itself. I do ask for a $500 non-refundable deposit upon an agreed price to cover the possibility of the buyer backing out, unless the buyer finds something wrong with car that wasn't as described. At that point, the buyer would be refunded the $500 deposit because the very last thing I want to do is misrepresent anything. I also ask that the buyer take care of shipping although I can assist with hot shot contacts that I've used in the past. I'll do anything I can to help and will be happy to show the car at any given time as long as we agree on a time before hand. My cell is 662-416-0900. Feel free to text or call at any reasonable hour and feel free to message me through eBay if you have any questions. Thank you so very much in advance and I'm looking forward to finding this beautiful SVO a new home with a new family that'll love and appreciate it just as we have. Good luck and God bless.
