Decades before "built Ford tough" became a public declaration, the F-series ably bridged a gap for its manufacturer, bringing dependability, plenty of welcome cargo space and rugged good looks to work-oriented personal trucks. This 1956 Ford F-100 Stepside builds upon that legacy and features a few well-chosen modifications and great looking exterior that makes it equally at home on the boulevard as it would be as a worthy competitor on the local car show circuit. As the F-series of personal trucks began to soar in popularity, Ford realized that they were onto a good thing and equipped the series' second generation - which this '56 closed out - with noticeably larger dimensions and stronger engines than its predecessors to make it even more capable at the work site. This F-100 was already a sharp looking workhorse when it rolled into action all those years ago, and a number of custom touches - a tastefully chopped cab, louvered hood, shaved door handles and a monochrome front grille being just a few - really make it stand out in a crowd. Its dark blue shade is just a couple of notches short of black and looks great, with a strong shine and even coloring, and the badgeless look on display here allows the paint to take center stage. The stance on this classic pickup strikes a nice balance - it's aggressively low, but not to such an extreme as to make every day driving impractical. <BR. The blue interior has been restored with upgraded components while still holding onto its thoroughly vintage vibe. Things are looking nice and clean inside - the split bench seating is well-padded for comfort and still looks fresh, featuring tuck and roll accents that blend with the door panels nicely. The Grant GT steering wheel brings a touch of modernity to the interior as it sits on its tilting column and the collection of parchment-colored Autometer gauges look great against the black steel of the dash and feature suitably vintage fonts. A Pioneer AM/FM/CD stereo has been cleanly installed in the custom center console and it teams with a Cerwin Vega amp and Infinity speakers mounted inside the cabin to produce a quality audio experience. Convenience features include remote door openers and power windows that open and shut with conviction. Underneath the matching blue tonneau cover, the bed area in back looks to be in good shape. Power comes via a 350 cubic inch V8 sitting under the hood, well-dressed with a chrome Edelbrock air cleaner riding over the top of a Edelbrock 4-barrel carb, matching valve covers and a very sharp billet pulley assembly. The engine is in good form, starting up easily and pulling with plenty of strength as it teams with a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission shifting at the top of its game. A braided radiator hose adds visual appeal while up front a mounted electric fan brings cooler temperatures during more demanding driving. Modern power brakes that feature discs up front equip this classic with plenty of fade resistant stopping ability as it cruises on its set of 17" Eagle Alloy wheels wrapped with Arizonian tires. Whether you're on the hunt for a sharp looking, strong running classic truck that's ready to hit the road just as soon as you get it home, or you have your sights set on making an impact on the local car show circuit, this 1956 Ford F-100 Stepside is ready to deliver.
