If you're a guy of a certain age, you already know what this is. If you don't, well, it's going to be hard to explain "Starsky and Hutch" and the significance of this 1974 Ford Gran Torino to you, but perhaps you remember the "Starsky and Hutch" movie a few years ago where such a car was also featured prominently. Either way, this is an icon of '70s television and even more remarkably, it's a one owner car! A quick Google search will tell you about one of the most famous TV and movie cars of all, but the details on this one are even more impressive. It's not some ragged-out prop, it's a purpose built performance car built by a fan, and quite honestly if you have a Gran Torino coupe, this is the best way to make it look awesome. Bright red is fine, but the iconic white stripe slims it down and gives it a very aggressive look that's the exact opposite of subtle. Finish quality is decent, probably about like a movie prop might have been, and the bright red paint is just the right color to really get attention. Up close, you'll also note that the white stripe has been painted on, so it's not a decal or a half-hearted effort. The bumpers look big enough to use as battering rams (which is what they often did on TV and how these look today) and you have to admit that this big brute does look imposing hammering down the road. It's not perfect, but it's pretty much the way it might have looked on TV. Buckets in a Torino are rather rare, as this was Ford's luxury model, and these are actually a split bench with a drop-down armrest between them. Pretty convincing, don't you think? It appears to be mostly original upholstery, and it's holding up remarkably well for being nearly 50 years old. There's a bit of fading and some scuffs on the driver's seat, but nothing that would warrant replacement and the red accents certainly work well with the bodywork. The carpets are newer and look great and the door panels have been trimmed to match. The factory gauges are arrayed in five round pods, and while they're a little faded, you can still see that this car came with a rather rare factory tach. There's also an AM/FM/cassette stereo in the dash and a trunk that looks pretty original but in good order thanks to a lifetime in warm, sunny Georgia. This much car needs a lot of engine, and the 351 Windsor V8 living under the hood makes it feel reasonably entertaining on the road. It's still quite stock from top to bottom, so it's not making huge horsepower, but you also know it's bulletproof reliable and upgrades are just a phone call away. It might benefit from a fresh tune, but we like the sound it makes through the dual exhaust system. Ford Blue is the dominant color under the hood and it really is remarkably clean. The rugged C6 3-speed automatic shifts nicely and the stock 9-inch rear end can take anything you throw at it. Clean floors, the right '70s stance, and factory 14-inch wheels with 225/75/14 white-letter radials complete the look. These cars were extremely popular back in the day and not many have survived, let alone with the same owner. If you like the show, the movie, or just the car, this is a cool old Torino with a ton of original documentation that's ready to attract some attention. Call today!
