Description
This 1965 Ford Mustang fastback was manufactured at Ford's Dearborn plant and delivered new to Memphis, Tennessee before moving to California, where it received a ground-up restoration approximately 5,000 miles ago. The work included installation of a 302ci crate engine and Tremec 5-speed transmission as well as a two-tone Pony interior and more. The restoration included a color change from the original Poppy Red to the Rangoon Red seen today. The paint and sheet metal is presenting well with an absence of dents, dings, or chips. Chrome bumpers were also refinished.
Rolling stock consists of 15' Torque Thrust wheels wearing gray centers and mounted with staggered-width BFGoodrich Radial T/A white-letter tires. Trim includes GT-style fog lamps, dual exhaust outlets, side stripes, and fender badging.
New floor panels were installed during the restoration along with a fresh two-tone "Pony" interior featuring integrated door panel arm rests and a woodgrain three-spoke wheel. Matching woodgrain trim is present on the dash and full-length center console, the latter home to a Hurst cueball shifter.
The five-gauge instrument panel is supplemented with a clock and tachometer mounted to the steering column in the fashion of the period Rally Pac. Approximately 62k miles are shown on the 5-digit odometer.
The trunk is finished in an original-style plaid vinyl spare tire cover and floor liner.
The original A-code 289ci V8 was replaced with a 302ci crate engine during the restoration. Induction is from a four-barrel Edelbrock carburetor and aluminum intake. Underhood trim and upgrades include ribbed rocker covers, a chrome Monte Carlo bar and export brace, silicone hoses, and period windshield washer equipment.
Shifting is through a Tremec 5-speed transmission. Front disc brakes have been upgraded with a dual-circuit brake master cylinder, while other running gear includes rear air shocks and a large front sway bar.
Underbody photo show the general condition of the drivetrain, suspension, floors, and true dual exhausts exiting through the rear valance.
