1989 Festiva has 74000 miles on it. I bought it two years ago and drove it as a daily driver...with trips from Louisiana to Virginia, Missouri, and Minnesota. I have replaced the following items when I bought it at 48000 miles: tires, struts and shocks, muffler and catalytic converter, wheel bearings, radio, clutch, some suspension bushings and tie rods. I replaced the AC compressor at about 52000 miles. I have replaced the following items at about 60000 miles: timing belt, water pump, distributor, coil, ignition wires and plugs, fuel pump, and carburetor. Only problem l have had besides investing the money and time into making it a safe and dependable car (it has never left me stranded; my old 2011 VW left me waiting for a tow truck four times) is it likes to eat fan belts...about two a year. I have changed the pulleys that drive the belt but now I think it is in the pulley alignment. I just replace the fan belt today with a new one. Things that don't work: dome light--I replaced it with an LED light. Includes some spare parts and a big blue Ford Festiva factory shop manual. Clear coat paint on hood and above doors has failed but is not peeling any further. I thought about respraying the hood and the upper door areas but I never got around to it.
