This 1986 Ford Bronco II Eddie Bauer Edition is one sharp looking, compact SUV. It's the precursor to today's ultra-popular Explorer, but also a respected and surefootedly rugged vehicle in its own right that's in great running form and will pull into its next owner's garage with a clean AutoCheck report on board to prove it's avoided any notable collisions over the years. The two-tone, brown metallic and beige paint remains in strong, driver quality condition. This... Bronco II hasn't seen the inside of a restoration shop during its lifetime and the color scheme it wears is the same one it debuted with, yet while you can find some evidence of its years of faithful service on its exterior, this is still a vital looking workhorse. Its functional form - unabashedly square, yet still refined - has a reassuring, no-nonsense nature to it. Ford really did hit the mark with their objective of creating a downsized version of the full-size Bronco without making any stylistic missteps to compromise their result. More than 30 years after its debut, it remains well aligned - the lines separating what appear to be all original body panels are tight and even, and its pair of doors and hood open and shut very smoothly. You'll find a roof rack sitting securely in place on top and both an externally mounted spare and trailer hitch in back, all of which underscore this vintage SUV's penchant for adventure. The brown cloth interior has come through the years impressively well. The front buckets and rear bench seat still have their factory look-down to the pastel-colored inserts on their seat backs - but look quite a bit fresher than you'd rightfully expect, given their age. The cloth seat covers Ford used during this era were thick and durable and have served the car ably - there's just slight evidence of wear on their surfaces but this upholstery has plenty of life left in it and is bracketed by door panels to either side that also present well. The stock Ford steering wheel features a comfortably padded leather wrap and places the cruise control feature within easy reach, while just beyond it the dash area still retains its factory look and is in very nice shape, with a burl accented panel surrounding its clear gauges and an aftermarket AM/FM/CD stereo with iPod connectivity sitting at its center to cater to your audio needs. Comfort and convenience features also include power windows and door locks and air conditioning that's in top form to cool the interior in very short order. The Bronco II offers quite a bit of storage space in back, especially with the rear seat folded down. This compact SUV is very much ready for action - both on the asphalt, as well more rugged terrain - as soon as you get it home. Its fuel injected 2.9 liter engine fires up quickly and runs smoothly, combining with a 4-speed automatic transmission for a good driving experience in everyday driving conditions. When the urge to veer off onto paths less travelled strikes, the Bronco II's 4-wheel drive feature is in good form and teams with an impressive amount of wheel clearance to make for some fun off-roading. Smooth power steering provides easy navigation, while power front disc brakes provide dependable stops in all situations as this vintage Ford conquers the land before it on a set of 15" stock Ford rims.
