One of the very first woodie station wagons! 1915 Brass Ford Model T Depot hack, the next step up from a horse drawn buggy was a response to a need for transportation to and from the nations most popular way of going places- the railroad. On any given day Depot hacks ("hacks" a term used for taxicabs) could be seen working around train stations and hotels. Ford made many model T's, but only some were sold as a chassis with thedrive trainand coach builders built the wooden bodies. The depot hack version featured an open wooden body with multiple seats and room to carry the whole family. Compared to the many that were produced, precious few wooden-bodied motor cars survive today, making them highly desirable.
Ford model T's came with 2.9L, 20 hp, 176.7 cu. in. inline four-cylinder engines, planetary two-speed transmission, front and rear transverse leaf springs, hand-operated rear mechanical brakes, and foot pedal-operateddrive shaftbrake. Wheelbase: 100 in The assembly line for model T was started in 1914.
This particular car was always stored indoors and is very original, except for the addition of slightly later wood spoke wheels as they were more desirable that the earlier problematic ones. The wood body is the only one that was ever on this chassis and was made by the Pleasantville Body Co. in Dewitville NY and has their nameplate on it. It has no rust or rot whatsoever ( never did) and is very sturdy. The equipment consists of a squeezebulb Oogah horn, electric headlamps, tailamp, 2 oil lanterns up front and a new brass "dogbone" motometer There is a new battery, carburetor and brass hubcaps .The body is totally rust free and it too, always was. Even the paint in the underside of the fenders is very nice. The car has been refreshed a few years ago and is in excellent condition, both cosmetically and mechanically. The radiator shell has a couple of dings in it. It runs and drives well. The matching tires have almost new tread. The car comes with the original (Excellent condition) 1915 NY licence plates which it can be driven on the road with. The Classic car insurance is under $200yr with zerodeductiblecollision and glass coverage and roadside assistance. The registration is about $24 ys. It was just NYS inspected and is currently on the road. The car is a real head turner and aside from a driver would make an excellent showpiece for arestaurant, bar, museum or anyplace you can think of. Priced at $15,500.
