The truck has new brakes, new bearings, seals, races, emergency brake cables, and brake lines on the rear axle. I upgraded the rear axle from a Dana 60 to a Sterling 10.25" and installed a new Detroit Locker while upgrading. The power train and drivetrain is pretty much all new. It runs excellent, it pulls well, shifts firm, and rides smooth with the newer model suspension technology. Fuel mileage is around 9-10 mpg. I've had it on 400 mile trips, which it did really well. I only run 93 octane non ethanol gasoline in it and I'm an Amsoil dealer so I run 15W-40 Amsoil diesel and marine engine oil, signature series transmission fluid, and severe gear (gear oil) in the differentials. The transfer case engages smooth and the locking Warn Hubs operate as they should. Overall, mechanically it is sound. The interior is in pretty good shape. The rear seat, carpet, and headliner are all in excellent condition. The front seat has wear on the driver's side seat base. The seat is good, but I would recover it. The backrest is in good condition. All the gauges work as they should. The fuel tank switch and heater controls works as they should. The A/C compressor runs smooth but needs to be charged. It is still the old R12 freon, but I would convert it over to R134A. The cruise control is not hooked up, I have the module, and it will go with the truck, it was in a box when I bought the truck 4.5 years ago. Windows, door locks, etc all work as they should. The radio works, but the speakers are not hooked up. The door panels look good, but if I we're going to keep it, I would replace them, old plastic cracks at the grab handle on these as we all know. The body on the truck is in pretty good shape. If I kept the truck I would repaint it in the next couple years. It was painted about 10 years ago and with any paint job of that age, it is showing some wear. The hood has a couple spots on the top where the paint peeled up. The front grill and housing is near perfect. Both front fenders are near perfect. The doors are solid and no signs of rust. The inside of the driver's door has a few paint chips where the lower carpet went that has some surface rust. The cab of the truck is pretty good. On the driver's side extension someone repaired it and didn't do a good job so the paint is beginning to crack out. I think they didn't put etching primer on it before painting. Other than that, I think it looks pretty good. The bed is in really good shape for a 79' 1 ton, hardly a dent in the floor. The bed sides are good with the exception of the fender wells having bubbles in the paint (again I think an etch primer thing). The reason I say that is the inner wheel wells have no rust, but the paint is bubbled on the outside. The passenger side bedside rear lower panel has a small hole that can be easily patched. The tailgate is near perfect, other than a couple paint chips on the top from loading stuff, no dents, dings, or rust. The crate engine and transmission only has about 3,500 miles on them. The tires have about 1,500 miles on them. The suspension under the truck is for a 2004 model truck to gain a better ride and suspension articulation vs. 1979 technology.
The truck is not perfect, but in really good shape. The truck spent most of it's life in the Carolina's and I purchased it from a gentlemen in Virginia Beach about 4.5 years ago. Inside the bed is perfect, barely a dent (very rare for a 79' 1 ton). As mentioned earlier, the body is in pretty good shape, common wheel well bubbles on the bed, though the inner wheel wells are rust free. The cab is in good shape, the corners are solid, it has a place on the driver's side extension from a bad repair job, other than that, good shape for a 39 year old truck as far as I can tell. The floors are solid, interior is complete. The driver's side seat cushion could use a recover as mentioned earlier, but the rest of the interior is in good shape. The carpet and headliner are both in really good condition.
The truck runs and drives great. I always get asked questions about it when I take it out and I'm always asked if it is for sale, lol. Well, now it is. Attached in the pictures is a copy of the Marti Autoworks report on this truck. As you can see on the report, the truck is 1 of 2 with the codes. The buyer is responsible for picking up the truck and paying in full, within 7 days of the auction close.
