1956 Ford Thunderbird Convertible Two Tops 292 V8 Auto – Classic!
Up for auction is a 1956 Ford Thunderbird Convertible with an older frame-on restoration in running condition. The exterior color is white with two tops – black cloth and white hard top with port holes. The interior is red and white. This is the only year with the Continental style spare tire carrier.
I’m representing a friend in this auction who is a classic car enthusiast and have permission to auction this car via eBay. This Thunderbird is located in Weirton West Virginia (Weirton is 30 miles from the Pittsburgh Airport) and has a “clear” West Virginia title in the friend’s name.
You can contact me by phone or text (Marc at 405-503-8496) for any questions you might have. I’m a longtime seller on eBay with a 100% feedback rating and I intend to represent this Thunderbird as accurately and honestly as possible. I plan to be very responsive to any questions. If you are local in the tri-state (PA/OH/WV) area I would strongly encourage you to inspect this car in person.
The Odometer currently shows 68,765 miles which are original miles. It has been in possession of the current owner for 29 years (purchased in 1989). When purchased it had 67,000 miles, so only 1765 mile have been put on it over the past 29 years. The current owner has taken it out a few time a year for short leisurely drives.
Note: I’m not a mechanic but a “car guy” and here are my observations of the car and information that the owner provided:
The car had a body and interior restoration approximately 25yrs ago. At that time the following was done:
- New metal body panels welded in to repair rust, no bondo repairs made
- Professional repaint of exterior
- Interior seats redone with vinyl
- Re-chroming of front and rear bumpers
- New taillights with bezels installed
- New emblems installed
- Engine rebuilt
- New gas tank
- New hubcaps
- New cloth convertible top
- Used hard top was purchased from another car
Recent Tune-up Service within past 30 days:
- New sparkplugs
- New generator brushes
- New fuel pump
- New voltage regulator
The Good:
- Runs and drives but has not been up to highway speeds in several years
- Fluids looked good and clean
- Auto transmission, shifts correctly
- Engine and transmission assumed to be original to the car
- Starts right up
- No visible white or gray smoke from exhaust
- Frame appears in good shape and not rusted away
- Floor boards (left and right) have been repaired
- Power brakes and power steering work
- Trunk not rusted away – some repairs made
- No rust spots on the body/paint
- No cracks in the dash
- All four tires have good tread and are not rotted
- Cloth top and hard top are in good condition but missing some latching hardware.
- Body is straight and solid with some minor dents/dings
- Bumpers straight and chrome very good
- Car has been kept in a climate control garage
Issues Noticed:
- Body is straight but has a couple of very minor dings/dents/marks in the paint
- Paint has developed minor “crazing” over past 25 years
- Most of the rubber/seals around the doors, cloth top, hard top has deteriorated and will need to be replaced
- Foam Seat padding deteriorating and dust is seen gathering on seat
Includes a second set of hub caps and other misc parts (see pics)
