How many times are you going to get a shot at bidding on a vintage, full of patina, 1968 Ford F-250 Explorer Packageand Camper Special PackageOriginal Highboy 4x4? Well, here is your chance.......
I'll hit the highlights on this neat truck......
Comes out of the South Missouri/Oklahoma area where truck bodies last a long time. Original color that looks like it may have been repainted once at sometime. Very straight body panels for the most part with a few slight imperfections here and there. All Trim and All badging is intact on both sides and interior of the truck and all badging is in great condition.
You will find natural patina throughout. Bed was used, but not abused and tailgate works perfectly. All doors open and shut as new.... just a silky smooth "click and snap open and shut"... no door sagging whatsoever. There is some rust that has formed in small areas low on each front fender and some pin-holes in the bed. The largest hole in the bed is about the size of a quarter......but is still super solid the rest of the 99% of the bed. All panels are still solid and firmly attached and not loose at all. Hood latch works with ease. I have a perfect replacement front grill. It's straight, not bent at all but was painted flat black. I was going to have all the paint removed and polished... and then install on the truck. This grill will go with the truck....you'll like it. The first thing you'll notice when driving is how tight this truck feels.....no rattles or squeaks even when hitting bumps on the road. Very solid feel and not "loose" at all.
All glass is intact with no cracks or fogging. All windows go up and down as they should and rear split window works also. There is one crack in the dash. Interior dome light works, dash lights work and even the high/low beam indicator works in dash. Clear looking gauges. Gas gauge works intermittently... I've not tried to diagnosis it yet since I don't take long trips with it. AM/FM radio works. Fan blows strong. Factory A/C is all still in the cab, but compressor is gone. Speedometer works and aftermarket temp and oil pressure gauge work properly. All Exterior lights work including all the upper cab lights. Turn signals and brake lights also work properly.
Mechanically......... The highlight of this truck is you get a brand new rebuilt (less than 200 miles on engine) Ford 460 V-8. Was built with a little larger carb than stock (800 cfm) 4 barrel, aluminum intake, and headers.(See the engine stand pic in this listingas itsat before the install)Starts right up. High output alternator, twin electric fans on the radiator and high volume electric fuel pump are some other added features. Power Steering and Power Brakes. Goes down the road straight and true and does not pull to one side when brakes applied. 4 wheel drive engages flawlessly and lockouts engage easily in and out of "lock" position. Be ready...... this engine sounds pretty mean with the new3 and 1/2 inch pipes coming off those headers. Since the engine is newer..... Zinc additive is currently in the 10W-30 oil. Engine temp runs about 175-180 degrees.Tranny shifts crisp and flawlessly.
Wheels and tires......... Wheels are steel 16 inch with period correct original Ford hubcaps. Paint on wheels is new. Tires are at about 90% tread left.....almost new. Tracks straight and true down the road with no vibration.
The coolest thing about this vintage Highboy is that it is a rare combo package offered by Ford. Beginning in 1968 Ford began to offer an "Explorer Package" for 2 months out of each year, and did this until 1986 which made it a rare option for any F-250 in that time period with such a limited availabilty. This was the first year (1968)Ford offered this "Explorer Package"...and the original owner also opted to order it with the "Camper Special" package. I personally have not seen a Highboy EVER up for sale with both package options from 1968.
So........ good luck on your bidding.Reallyhate to turn thistruck loose, but I just have too manyprojects here at home that need attention instead of a full restoration of this beauty. I will assist in storing the truck in my pole barn for 30 days after the sale until you pick it up personally or have shipping pick it up. Payment for the truck must happen via wire transfer or cash in person within 3 days of auction ending. Feel free to ask as many questions as you want. For those of you that have cell phones, I have some videos I can text you of the truck running, starting and full walk around, but I don't know how to put up on You-Tube. I can text those videos to youif I can get your cell number. Title is clean and clear Indiana title.
If you are an ebay bidder with less than a (10) rating.......please contact me first before bidding or your bid will be cancelled immediately.
Good luck to all......... reserve is set reasonably.
