1971 Ford LTD Country Squire Station Wagon
I searched for the right station wagon for several years until finding this one. It needed to be an original, rust free, late 60s – early 70s example, with a roof rack, third row seating, and a “magic door gate”.
This wagon actually has 47,000 original miles. That's right, not 147,000 but 47,000! It drives like it as well.Itfeaturesthe original400 cid. motor with a C6 automatic on the column. One ofmy additional and also essential requirements was that the wagon have a clear history and service records. The original owner had this Classic in excess of twenty years. He started taking notes from the very beginning recording oil changes/alignments/tire rotations...and created a file of the brochures, window sticker, metal data tag, build sheet... His notes show very consistent maintenance which, in addition to the condition, verify that the miles are correct. The original owners’ manual, purchase documents and Ziebart rust proof warranty were in the glove box as you would expect from a very caring, original owner. This Wagon has always been a California, rust and bondo free example. Mechanically it is perfect and I never hesitate driving it to the beach or wherever. Anything can happen to an older mechanical device but I know of no reason a motivated buyer should be concerned about driving this car back to California. It is absolutely a survivor. The paint is faded, but the body is straight with perfect gaps. NO rust, no body filler, no door sags, no cracks, dents, dings; all gaps are correct with perfectly aligned body panels. All exterior trim is intact and as new. Perfect if you are looking for somethingnostalgic, reliable, practical and eye catchingto cruise in withpatina. My planwas tojust leave it the way it is because I enjoy the look and it's only original once. It would make a great candidate for new paint and wood decals but that's not what I wanted. It is a great cruiser, that gets looks everywhere it goes. Mechanically it has been completely gone through and anything needed has been done. I own several cars including National Show Winning muscle cars and this car was serviced the same as my 1970 Hemi Cuda which is to say...perfectly. It ran good when I purchased it but needed some attention and maintenance to satisfy me and my desire to have zero potential issues.During the last year, my shop replaced the water pump, brakes lines (with custom fabricated steel), all front-end components, shocks/suspension, stainless fabricated fuel lines, all tires, an alignment, electronic distributer conversion and a completetune up. About two months ago the transmission modulatorshowed signs of fatigueand was replaced. The glove box door lock was replaced and keyed with an OEM part. The interior is near perfect with no tears in the seats, sag, burns, rips.... I had the front seat reupholstered with the remaining seats original and near perfect. Power windows, power brakes, power steering and automatic transmission. No air conditioning. Glass is all chip and scratch free. She drives as quiet and smooth as my newer Cadillac CTS-V. The vehicle is great and I have used it to travel as both a daily driver or just a weekend cruiser. I have gone to car shows and cruise ins with friends that drive R8's, Lamborghini's, classic muscle cars...and my Wagon garners the biggest crowds. It's very funny but people love the memories, especially the rear facing seatsthat can double as a table and fold away flat. Room for8 or sheets of plywood! It has been great to me and always gets compliments and looks. I have been around old cars my entire life and have owned over a 100 and this one is very special and unique.
