1968 SHELBY FASTBACK GT-500 A true piece of American MUSCLE !!! This GT500 Original Acapulco blue paint Ford # 3077-A. Still retaining its Original 428 Police Intercepter engine and Top Loader 4 speed transmission. It is a 1 of 405 vehicles made with this Engine and Transmission. 1 of 432 with this Paint/trim combination. The car was ordered in Sept of 1967 and released with all its options on Dec 22nd of 1967. This GT-500 Mustang was special ordered from Hemphill-McCombs Ford in San Antonio. exas. DSO # 2554. This particular GT500 had these options added on the dealers order:Visibility Group Wheel Lip Moldings Sport Deck Rear Seat Power Steering Power Front Disc Brakes Tilt Away Steering Column AM Radio Black Knitted Bucket Seat Heavy Duty Battery To start. the car went through a very meticulous paint and body overhaul. not from damage. just to make this SHELBY GT-500 showroom beautiful!!! This 1968 Shelby Fastback GT-500 has had a complete rotisserie restoration. Down to every nut and bolt. There was no expense spared. and nothing was over looked. The main objective of this restoration was to keep the car original as possible. Everything was taken off the car. the car was then put on the Rotisserie. while the paint and body was being done. All the other pieces were being cleaned and repainted. Steering gear rebuilt. Transmission rebuilt. heater box rebuilt. Engine rebuilt. etc etc etc…The process took over a year and half. cleaning everything. reassembling the car. paying close attention to detail. The Interior was kept Original as possible. The Front seats still have original covers as well as the back seat. Carpet was replaced throughout. And Sound deadener was added for a comfortable interior cabin. The original 428 was completely rebuilt to be strong. have plenty of power. and yet be very reliable. The original Top Loader 4 speed. and rear end were rebuilt as well. The rear differential was replaced with a TRU TRAC Posi with a 3. 89 ratio. (The original 3. 50 differential will be sold with the car). All the mechanicals of this car are sorted and spot on.
