Car description |
---|
This is a car that I found in a garage in San Jose Ca.while buying a 1968 Chevy Fleetside from the original owners son. It had not been driven since at least 1986 and was covered with boxes and etc. There is a note taped to the drivers door dated 1986 not to drive the Model A as it had no insurance. The note was to the owners wife as she liked driving the Coupe. The owner had passed away so the car was being sold. He had bought the car from the original owner in the 50's.He taught at UC San Jose and became the head of the Aeronautics Program there and drove the car to school for years. He put the V-8 wheels and the smaller headlights on the car in the 50's. He had the engine rebuilt in the mid 60's. It was redone with a overbore and a Model "C" crankshaft and head. The rods and main bearings were rebabbited and all of the receipts are in the file folder with the car. The owners son said that the car had around 3000 miles on it since the rebuild. A more rust free Model A would be hard to find. I posted photos of areas that would be prone to rust. The only thing I could find is a area about 3" long on the bottom of the shelf behind the front seat below the back window. I think some one must of had a carpet or mat on the storage shelf and it got water under it from the back window. There is also a small spot on the lower inner rh corner of the rumble lib where a small piece of paint is coming loose aprox 1/2" dia. but it feels solid under it. I am being a nitpicker so you won't have any surprises. The engine runs smoot, quiet and strong with no smoke. I replaced the water pump and put in new points and condenser with a modern points plate. Now the Bonus, included with the car is a very nice original Weiand Finned Aluminum Cyl. head and a Trojan Dual Carb Intake Manifold. The owner had picked these up years ago and never installed them so bolt them on and have a period Hot Rod. The car is very presentable with a nice top(a receipt in the folder shows it was installed in 1965) The paint is from the late 50's or early 60's and would shine up very nice. I only washed the car so it retains the same patina as when removed from the garage. The car has a neat accessory trunk that opens down and has two pins that lock it open and makes a small pickup like bed. There is a nice folder with the car going back to 1965. Due to the bad weather back East I could store the car in my garage for 2 months after the sale. I could also deliver the car ti the Turlock CA Swap Meet on Jan 26th for no charge.
