The 'Bullet Birds' were one of the best looking cars of the time. From their sleek laid back hood & grille to their slab sides the cars look like a purpose built missile. This bird was restored by a gentleman at home in his garage. It was built to be a driver, not a show car.
The body is very solid and appears to be all original rust free panels. The car was painted with the engine out, top off and interior removed. The trunk and engine compartment all wear the same Aquamarine paint as the exterior. This was a huge undertaking for a home restoration but the car presents well. There are imperfections in the paint, but the car is quite straight. Consider this one a 10 footer.
The Thunderbird was a highly optioned car from Ford. With options like a 'Swing Away' Steering column, full length floor console and tons of chrome trim this is an impressive interior in any era. During the restoration it received new seat upholstery and carpet. The other panels appear to be the originals. Again, much time and effort was invested here with what appears to be a complete nut and bolt job.
Under the hood, the 390 was rebuilt to stock specs with the exception of the Edelbrock Performer aluminum intake manifold. The engine fires up quickly and runs very well with a nice note to the idle. The automatic transmission works nicely and was overhauled as well. The starter, alternator, brake booster, etc were all replaced for the restoration.
The convertible top was professionally installed due to the complexity. It fits nice and snug when up. The retractable system is an amazing mechanical ballet. If you have never seen it before it is truly something to behold.
This T-Bird drives surprisingly well. Thanks to a rebuilt front suspension and steering, the car feels right on the highway. Lower profile tires make the steering much more crisp and responsive. The updated 17" Torque Thrust Wheels are from American Racing.
