ABOUT THE CAR:
This classic garden turquoise/corinthian white Starlineris a beautiful Southern cruiser. North Carolina born and bred, having been purchased originally in the small town of Lincolnton (buyer will receive thecertified copy of the vehicle title history). This car is not a trailer queen but, in my opinion, is too nice to be a daily driver. This beauty runs strong, shifts flawlessly and drives extremely well. Doesn't smoke, rattle, ping or make any other funny noises. Steers straight without pulling, including during braking. Brakes nicely with no abnormal noises. Chassis is tight and quiet, with no annoying squeaks or rattles. Although the car shows and presents itself very well, it does have some minor issues both body and mechanical. It's powered by a very strong running 352 cu. in. FE big block with rare factory optioned tri-power carburetion and even rarer FOMOCO cast iron "shorty" headers. This workhorse is backed up by a freshly rebuilt Borg Warner T-86 overdrive and original 3:56 ratio 9" differential. Although mechanically this car runs and drives very smoothly, I'd recommend a good detailing of the engine bay for appearance sake. There are 2 steel freeze plugs which have begun to seep from age and deterioration. It needs another oil drain plug and it idles a little high (center carb problem, I presume). Also needs a new idler arm installed (I have the arm). Currently, the clutch feels good and operates fine but it is adjusted all the way out so I suppose maybe in the next couple years it may need replacement. Exhaust is fine for now but is old. As far as the body goes, in general, it's a very solid car. Underneath, it's had some MINOR rust deterioration in a few of the typical places. These include the very bottom of the radiator support, driver's pan (these two areas are the worst and can be seen in the pics), trunk extensions (pic) and about an 8" "weak spot" in the trunk floor. The front brace for the fuel tank straps shows some deterioration but not near the straps (pic). Just to the front of this brace, in the floor above the rear axle, there are a couple small holes (pic). These areas are what I would call small, not requiring full panel replacement but should at some point get some attention. Until then, they are presently being "preserved" with fiberglass mat and the car NEVER sees rain. None of these areas detract from this car's appearance and can easily be repaired by a good body man.The remainder of the underbody sheet metal looks great including the firewall and the other 3 floor pans. The exterior metal is all original and solid, showing no significant or obvious signs of rust repair ever having been needed except possibly a small area underneath the right rocker panel, just in front of the rear wheel. The quarters, fenders, and left rocker are solid. There is no rot whatsoever on the frame or at any critical areas such as body mounts or other structural members. Doors, hood and trunk lid are great. It appears to have had a dent repair in the right front fender as the repair can be seen by a discerning eye if the light hits it at the proper angle. The left side of the tail panel near the left taillight has had a small dent repair done at some point. The paint appears to be a pretty well done single stage job that I would rate at about a 7 or 8 on a scale of 10. All the chrome and brightwork has been beautifully redone where needed and all glass except the rear window has been replaced. The interior, with the exception of the new carpet is 100% original. It's starting to show its age but is remarkably well preserved. The seats, headliner and door panels have no rips or tears. All door and window seals have been replaced as needed and the vent window assemblies have been completely rebuilt. All instrumentation and lighting work as they should except the clock and radio. The vehicle's riding on a new set of BF Goodrich Radial T/A's mounted on an original 1972 dated set of FOMOCO Magnum 500 rims. If you've read this far, I probably don't need to remind you of the iconic reputation that the Starliner holds. Again, this is not a trailer queen but is a good candidate to become one. If you love driving and working on old cars, this one just might suit you. All the major things have been done....she just needs a little more TLC. We have greatly enjoyed driving this car. It always draws a crowd at the events and getting a tank of gas usually requires 15 or so minutes as it gets attention there also! Check the value guides, examine the pictures, do your research, and I'm confident you'll find that this is a whole lot of classic car for the money. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR INTEREST !!!
