Car description |
---|
Brought this Fairmont back from the dead.New (not reman) parts:Fuel pump, exhaust manifold, Carter YFA carburetor, stabilizer bar links, tires (5), 1 wheel, distributor cap / rotor / wires / plugs, exhaust from manifold back to muffler, windshield washer pump, wiper blades, front struts, brake rotors and drums, heater core, battery cables, starter relay, and brake combination valve.
Odometer says 35594. I suspect the odo has been around once given the car's age but I don't know for sure.
Paint is oxidized and worn off to the primer in a few spots.
All lights work except the aftermarket fogs (not wired up). This car had A/C at one time but everything had been removed. I removed the pulse air emissions system, EGR, and both CATS. Nothing worked. So this car may not pass any State's emissions test. But it sure runs well.
The radio works on FM but only static on AM. The dash pad radio speakers were inop so they got trashed and were not replaced. One rear speaker works OK the other is very scratchy. The radio is not installed because when I took out the dash to replace the heater core I didn't put the radio in before bolting everything up. Thought the radio would slip in later no problem. Wrong.
The weatherstripping everywhere is old and in some places brittle. So there is wind noise but no water leaks.
The glass and door panels are in good shape. the steering wheel is cracked and its trim is peeling. I've covered it with a cheap Walmart cover. The power door locks don't work (RF solenoid is missing).
I think the differential pinion bearing is making noise. The rear end howls a bit under accel or coast--goes away on decel.
I suspect the ball joints might need replacing because of age but the car goes down the road straight and the steering is not loose.
Oil leak at left front of oil pan. Will leave a good-size spot on the floor after a couple of weeks.
Has full-size spare but missing the jack and tire iron.
I'm selling for three reasons: I have a another vehicle to resurrect (1972 Jeep Commando), I miss the luxury of my Buick Park Avenue, and most of all, I'll be damned if I'm going to remove the Fairmont's dash again to replace the BRAND NEW NAPA blower motor that squeals after a few minutes of operation. The old blower ran silent but I figured that sure as hell if I didn't replace it, it would get noisy. Go figure. On Oct-17-17 at 17:42:38 PDT, seller added the following information:

Forgot to mention that the park brake cables are seized.
