Undeniably a head turner, this 1936 Ford 1/2 Ton pickup offers a great combination of true vintage automotive nostalgia and a host of well-chosen modern upgrades that promise to make for some serious motoring fun!
From the ornate, shield-shaped grille with its unmistakable Ford blue oval badge on top, to the bold curvature of its fenders and running boards, some serious inspiration went into the design of this venerable pickup when it rolled out some 80 years ago. With its rounded cab, vented folding hood and extensive use of raised steel as ornamentation from front to back, it's got a near art deco vibe and yet with a very capable look to it. The deep red paint sitting underneath well-applied clearcoat that gives it such a nice shine wasn't an option all those years ago, but it looks great on this truck, and provides a very effective backdrop for the chrome of the front and rear bumpers, external headlight casings and mirrors. Everything is fitting well, too - the doors open and close smoothly and that distinct hood transitions into the cabin with a nice even gap all the way around. In back, the raised Ford script lettering, painted in contrasting black, is a really nice detail.
The interior is decked out in black vinyl and represents a nice balance of period-appropriate aesthetics and modern conveniences. The bench seat remains in good condition, with a nice even surface that shows no creases or tears, while directly below it is an expanse of fresh looking black carpeting. Just beyond the tilt column that's decked out with the same deep red shade of the exterior are a set of white-faced Classic Instrument gauges that occupy the space of the original equipment very nicely, providing modern functionality and accuracy while still maintaining a very era-appropriate look. Mounted underneath the bench seat is a modern A/C system, certainly a practical creature comfort, that's in fine form, blowing plenty cold and with conviction. In back, the bed is lined with aged wooden planks between the steel reinforcements that are well-sealed and sit flush.
The drivetrain on this '36 is configured with enthusiastic motoring in mind. Unfold the hood and you'll see a Ford 351 Windsor V8 that's decked out with an Edelbrock 4 barrel carb and air cleaner, a set of Ford Racing valve covers and quite a number of chrome add-ons. Paired with a Ford AOD 4-speed automatic transmission, it's a very strong sounding engine, giving out a nice throaty tone through a set of aftermarket headers and idling smoothly. In front sits an amply-sized radiator that's paired with an electric fan to keep temperatures down in more challenging environments. The rack and pinion steering makes driving a lot more enjoyable, taking away the slop so common with vintage steering boxes and, with disc brakes on all four corners, brake fade won't be much of a concern. Another well-thought out upgrade is the suspension - those coil springs in front and coilovers in the back provide ride quality light years better than the leaf springs that came with trucks of this era. This very cool and well-equipped vintage truck sits on a set of 15" steel rims with chrome center caps, wrapped in BF Goodrich radial T/A blackwalls.
