A car that began life as a standard. clean 289 V-8 fastback Mustang has been transformed into a clone of what might be one of the most iconic muscle cars of all time. Built by Buzz Martin of Southwest Motorsports of Lehigh Acres. Florida. no expense was spared in making this Shelby Tribute car; she is as close to the original as possible. Many components were upgraded to SHELBY factory specifications ensuring that this car would not only be cosmetically correct. but run as fast as the real deal!!! Painted in period correct Wimbledon White with LeMans Blue Shelby stripes the car clearly plays the part of a Shelby. The body has a host of correct Shelby reproduction parts to play the clone part. including a correct Shelby style fiberglass hood. hoodpins. Shelby inboard style headlights and grill. rear window and rear quarter scoops. rear fiberglass decklid. rear quarter panel extensions. thunderbird taillights. dual exhaust valance and exterior Shelby GT500 insignia and badging. The engine compartment holds a correct 428 FE ford big block with a host of correct Shelby type components including dual 4 barrel carburetors and a “COBRA” inscribed air cleaner. valve covers. and oil pan. She has the correct rebuilt 4-speed manual transmission. and a rebuilt rear end. She wears the correct reproduction “Magstar” wheels shod with BF Goodrich 215/65/15 Radial T/A’s with plenty of tread remaining. The interior includes a Shelby style roll bar with a beautiful wooden “Moto-Lita” steering wheel with Shelby horn button; Shelby insignia is also evident throughout the cabin and different points of the exterior. The interior has a well integrated modern KENWOOD cd/stereo sound system. Much time. energy and money was expended in the sourcing of the correct parts and the building of this car. The build was well executed; the paintwork is excellent. from the no-seam stripes to the well detailed engine compartment. A new wiring harness was installed. and all systems work as they should. All of the suspension and underpinnings were upgraded to Shelby spec. including a FRONT DISC BRAKE CONVERSION. The quality extents to the mechanicals as well. with a professionally rebuilt engine. transmission and rear end. The car is fast. and handles as well as he looks and needs nothing except an enthusiastic new owner.
