If you are retired or just wanted a great second income, liked vintage vehicles with a personality listen up. I am listing this for my father. This is a running/driving barn find. Here is your chance to get into the ground floor. Restore and use as a tax write off. You would end up with a free truck and have fun doing it. His plan was to take to vintage car shows, The curiosity alone to even see an original authentic Ice Cream truck will have people walking up to it in droves. In fact had people stopping asking about the ice cream when I was taking pics! You can be proud you have a real deal. Perfect for any events or just cruise around town. Remember you can write off every mile. Who doesn't love Ice Cream?
This is for a one time sale for an original 1971 Good Humor Ice Cream Truck with it's original Ford Chassis. It is estimated that is one of about 2000 or so made. Good Humor were innovators and set the bar on selling Ice Cream. In the late 1960's they started fazing out their conventional trucks of a roofless pickup truck design to what they called an inside sales van. This vehicle. It standardized the industry. The company sold off all their trucks in the early 1970's. forever. Amazing this survives with it's original signage.
What makes this nice is it started life as an Ice Cream Truck. What that means is the truck was designed for a specific use. The suspension etc was set to haul the cooler. It wasn't converted from a conversion van or old mail truck. This was a purpose built machine.
It had been owned and on the road by an Ohio vending company. It was purchased in 2013 by a woman who owned a local water park here in Southern Ohio. She purchased it to incorporate it into her business. The project stopped when she closed the water park. This truck remained in storage. The mechanical aspect was addressed withapparentlyno money spared. It has anew re-manufactured Ford 300 six cylinder engine with about 75 miles of run time on it now. The previous owner states she spent over $1800. on just the purchase of the motor not counting any labor and all the new associated parts. New alternator starter coil fuel pump etc. Also replaced is the master cylinder and brake booster. Radiator flushed with new coolant. The brakes stop the vehicle. Starts and runs and idles great. I have driven it local and it operates fine. All fluids look clean. The signals work. Gas gauge, temp and amp are newer aftermarket and works as it should. Some of the glass was replaced with plexiglass. It needs the details sorted (needs an interior door handle) and mainly cosmetics. My father looked into Soda Blasting. It is very affordable. Here they come to you and can strip both the interior and exterior in about 4 hours.
The original bells are still intact and ring as you pull the string. It is also has a sound system is an Omni. Not sure how it works. Has the cooler and the compressor looks newer. It comes with an extra compressor. There seems to be no serious rust or corrosion issues. The original Good Humor signs are porcelain and is amazing they are still intact. The condition of the freezers are unknown Prior to the woman purchasing it was still being used but I cannot elaborate on the true condition. To sum it up you are purchasing a historic vehicle that although a mechanical restoration has started still needs finished to be mint. Please consider this a nice start on a great project.
