Car description

Hello Ebay peoples - This is an auction for a 1968 Mustang. Originally a small block coupe, it has been nicely built to a GT CS California special clone with a big block 390 in it.If you are looking for a REAL GT California special there are 2-3 on Ebay. The big block 390 car in Illinois is $60K and the one in New York is only $40K This will be less than half that ;)
Please - read the ad, look at the pics, and ask TONS of questions to make sure this is the car for you so we are both happy. By this, I mean this should be the CAR you want, in the CONDITION you want as there is finish work to do. A professional could finish in 40-50 hours, but it may be over a beginners head without help. Great father/son or mother/daughter project if you are handy with the wrenches.I will describe it in detail and provide all the info I would want if I was buying it and I will answer ALL questions so you you know what it is, and what it isn't.Please understand, my descriptions will be referring to a driveable car not a concourse show car. Although this would take home the trophies at your local Sonic or drive in on weekends !
To begin with, I bought a nice dry California coupe and tore it apart for the built. Just the purchase price of the car and the big block alone put it over $10K. New parts are now well over $6K with paint over $4500. Yeah, I'm in over 20.....but...it is a nice car and will either be a money maker for someone to finish or the favorite Mustang you ever had.
I'll tell you the bad before the good, so you can stop right there if it saves you time. The passenger side floor pan ONLY was rusted out from window being missing both were replaced. It has a dented front support lip ( the thinner sheet metal edge/lip in between the strut rod tunnels/below the center of where the radiator sits on bottom ) where somebody had towed/pulled it with a chain between 1968 and now. Will not affect anything. Other than that, nothing major just normal wear and age for a 50 year old car.
PAINT & BODY :Car was painted Raven black exterior and interior dash, door panels and rear interior quarters were also addressed as well as interior doors and jambs, as were underside of hood and trunk lid. Then it was assembled and you will see alot of NEW & correct AMK bolts here and there.Engine compartment was also smoothed out and shot semi gloss black. It came out really nice.Got a few scratches on shock tower dropping in the massive big block.
I spent over way too much on GT/CS stuff. Trunklid, side scoops, tail light panel & legit tail lights, GT gas cap, new bumpers, door handles, roof rail trim, rocker trim, hood trim, new tail light bezels etc were all added after paint. Also new CARLITE windshield and rubber installed.California Special emblems and 428 emblems added.Rear quarter end caps could be lined up/fitted better.Legit Marchal fog lights added.
INTERIOR :interior seats, carpet and door panels were just added but will need to be completed = carpet trimmed, seats bolted down ets.It has an ultra rare factory bench seat that was redone with new foam and new covers. Shop did a GREAT job on the seat and they look AWESOME. I just laid the carpet in and laid the seats in for transport as I don't have time or space to finish. New door panels are clipped in.You will need a dash pad and bezels- not included.
Front end :Has had disc brakes/5 lug added. New pads, rotors turned, seals, calipers were added.Comes with correct proportioning valve.A 7/8 factory anti sway bay with new bushings was installed as well as a new pittman arm and extra shock tower/firewall export bracing to handle the big block.New strut rod bushing were also installed. You will need to buy/install new shocks. Also has heavier 5 lug rear end with new brake hardware, pads, cylinders.
MOTOR/TRANS:390 V8 : is a C7ME casting era correct 390 ( late 67- running before pulled from 68 Couger ) that was inspected, cleaned up. The heads were pulled and redone. New head & intake gaskets, freeze plugs, This is the same casting as the monster 428 engines. They are identical externally. Only your mechanic will know..... It has correct dated Ford rebuilt water pump. Alternator/brackets and P/S pump and brackets are included as shown. GT exhaust manifolds were added. I will include a Ford Autolite 390 4V carb with it. Needs to be rebuilt prior to use however a nice Holley would serve it well. Motor is hard bolted/installed and will need to be completely hooked up.You will need to buy/install : radiator/hoses, all belts/hoses, fuel pump/lines, brake lines. I installed some stainless lines in engine bay prior to motor install and will include the rest of the set for you to install. Trans is a 3 speed toploader. bell housing is included. You will need pedals, clutch etc.I have a C-6 auto trans if you prefer. This would bolt up without any changes/additions.
WHEELS/TIRES : I searched high & low for a really solid set of Ford original GT wheels. These were by far the nicest set I saw. Hard to believe chrome 50 years old could look this good. Original trim rings and GT caps included. Tires are newer and still have the nubs on them.
OK - that's it folks. It is a PROJECT. It is 90% done in terms of cost & hours, but make no mistake it IS a project. You will have to hook up/finish cooling system, electrical, fuel system, brakes, exhaust and other trim/finish work as well. You could not even buy a car and a motor for the sale price of this car. Save time & $$$ and finish this.
Again, be honest with your skill level and time/finances and we will both be happy with the deal. Can be seen in Bakersfield Ca. I am working out of the country but can send a bill of sale and have it available for pick up.
I maintain a 100% EBAY rating for a reason. I don't sell junk. I tell you the good, the bad, and the ugly so you know what your getting.
PICK UP ONLYFeel free to take a look at the car before bidding. Contact me with questions. Thanks, Robert
