Car description

Original 1956 Ford Thunderbird Barn Find
Here we have for sale an awesome original 1956 Ford Thunderbird barn find. This is a pretty special car that has been in the original family since 1960 before I bought the car. The car was stored away for many many years before it was unearthed and got back on the road again. The car just has the look of an old original, sweaty car that people try and recreate with their cars today. The look is just amazing that the car has. The old, faded, worn, chipped and cracked black paint looks awesome. It not the prettiest car out there but it has character and you wish it could tell a story. I took the car to Hot August Nights here in Reno and parked it next to a restored 56' Thunderbird and people wouldn't stop looking at this car and walked right by the restored car. Its not too often you find Thunderbirds that aren't restored and to find them looking like this original look is rare to find. The car has had extensive work to make road worthy. I have all of the receipts that the previous owners did to the car and they tally up almost to $10,000!!They spent nearly $6,000 to have a professional remove and replace the original engine with a new, bored out, rebuilt Ford Y Block. The engine was balanced too and painted beautifully with the original color. I believe the engine is a 292 because I don't think you can bore a 312 60 over. The engine runs flawlessly and sounds just amazing. These Y Block engines have such a following and they sound just so unique, not like any other v8. The car has the original, optional Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission and shifts nicely. The previous owner has the front end all rebuilt with new tie rods, bushings, etc. The brakes were rebuilt and gone through and stop well. The gas tank was pulled and professionally boiled out and replaced. The tach and speedometer cables have been replaced. The carburetor has been rebuilt with new fuel lines run and a new fuel pump replaced the old one. The car has a ton of options, it has most all of the available options you could get back in 1956. The car has the optional automatic transmission, chrome dress up kit, oil bath air cleaner, that was covered to a paper filter. The car has full wheel covers, power steering and a power bench seat. It also has a heater, and a radio too! The interior of the car is in nice shape! We just replaced the door panels and kick panels to new original replacements. The door panels look awesome! The seat cover looks to be a nice, older replacement and its in great shape! The original optional radio is there but its not turning on. There was a tube in the glove box that may be blown. I am not a tube radio expert. The heater and fan work. The windshield wipers work. The tach and speedometer gauge work. The clock, I am not sure if its working or not. It has some dirt behind the glass. The grey carpet is in nice shape and looks great in the car. The original steering wheel has some cracks in it. The original hard top is ingreat shape but has the look too that goes right along with the car's original, barn find look. The original white perforated headliner is nice but it does have some splits in it. The original power seat works great. The front windshield is brand new with new weatherstripping. The rest of the windows are original. The driver side window has a crack in it but I do have a new replacement window to change that out. There are no sun visors in the car but I do have one that will need to be recovered that is off of the car. The black paint is an old repaint but is the original color. The body is in good shape and is pretty straight. There is just a couple dings in the body. There is some rust in the rockers and lower quarters too. The floors are solid in the car and its solid in the truck too. The bumpers and grille has nice chrome but they do have some patina on them. The chrome on the windows have some patina on them too. The electrical works on the car. The horn works and lights work. The dome light, in the interior needs a bulb. The wheel covers are pretty nice on the car with just some light winkles in them. The old bias-ply Firestone tires have low miles on them but the white walls have cracked over time which match the whole look on the car. The power steering has a minor leak. I have the original manual and original keys with the car. The car is not perfect and has its flaws but you just don't see cars that looks this cool anymore. Too many cars get restored and thats boring. This car has a ton of character and people love the way its looks too. You will be a hit at the car shows with this car. People wont stop asking you, "Where did you pull that out of"? The car is a nice driver, that runs, starts right up and stops well. You wont find another Thunderbird with this much work done to it for this price. You getting a car with practically a new power plant, which just doesn't come cheap anymore. Please ask any and all questions that you may have. My phone number is 775-750-2400. I have a clean and clear Nevada title for the car. I can store the car for up to a month at my home so that shipping arrangements are made and the car is picked up. I accept cash, check, money order, or bank transfer as forms of payment on the Thunderbird. Thanks for looking!
