PPI's WELCOME OFFERS WELCOME! Evolve Motors and Chicago Car Club are pleased to present this 1957 Ford Custom Styleside Pickup! There are so few cars out there that everyone can appreciate, no matter their automotive preferences. This Ford "Rat Rod" Pickup is the perfect example of one of these impossible-not-to-love cars. It has the utilitarian charm of an old, well-used pickup, but its modernized amenities make it a usable and practical driver. Exterior: Patina, patina, patina. With a custom restoration frame underneath, we're all for exposed rust and mismatched coloring on this truck's body panels. The burnt reds of the front end contrast beautifully with the remnants of teal in the rear and the wood-lined bed. The body was left mostly original and cleared over to lock in the years of aging and panel marinating. This truck has new glass and new seals throughout, as well as New Port Engineering wipers. Chrome and trim looks consistent throughout. They tastefully retain their dings and blemishes that add to the vintage feel of this truck. 20" deep-dish Detroit Steelie wheels are in like new condition and suit the truck perfectly. The bed of the truck is raised along with the wheel well tubs to accommodate the oversized wheels and suspension travel. You will also notice the huge 45 degree exhaust stack that comes through the bed and sits right behind the cab. RideTech air-ride suspension allows the ride height to be adjusted from inside the cabin; fully aired-out this truck looks seriously cool. Interior: Inside, this truck has an original-style instrument cluster with new gauges. Dash and door panels are body-colored and show patina much like the exterior. There is a bench seat with a custom baja blanket cover, as well as Vintage Air to keep the cabin cool. Gear lever is an oversized, Big-Daddy-Roth-style unit. The undermount cluster houses the Ride-Tech control unit and gauges so you can actively adjust the ride height while in the cab. Under the Hood / Underbody: What lies underneath is what really sets this truck apart from your standard "rat rod". Under the hood there's a 3.9L 4BT Cummins Turbo Diesel engine with an aluminum radiator and aluminum intercooler. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Ride Tech shocks, air valves and tank with Air Lift 2,600lb bags meet a custom fabricated Mustang II independent front suspension and Johns Industries 4-link rear axle housing with a Quick Performance Ford 9-inch center section. Power-vented disc brakes and power rack-and-pinion steering make this truck very usable as well as a hydraulic clutch. Under the hood there are also quad trumpet air horns, which can surely make your presence known. 20" deep-dish Detroit Steelies sit on new low-profile Toyos (F: 245/35/R20 and R: 315/35/R20). Then engine runs flawlessly and always fires right up, hot or cold. This truck is built to cruise and it runs just as great as you would ever hope. Since the build was completed, the truck has seen just over 2,000 miles of use. Running/Driving: This truck is an absolute pleasure to drive. It runs great and the bulletproof turbodiesel powerplant is confidence inspiring. The suspension is easily adjustable and has settings that give it the best overall ride. It has enough torque to bring down a building; the builder tells us power output is around 160hp and well over 400 lb ft of torque! It really gets up to speed quickly and is surprisingly quick. It idles nice and smooth and revs without hesitation. The transmission (from a 90s Ford) shifts easily with the help of a hydraulic clutch. The truck tracks straight under acceleration and stops just the same. The power steering makes for a very comfortable experience. We can honestly say that we have never had a driving experience quite like this one! This truck really is the ultimate "rat rod". With vintage aesthetic and modern guts, it's truly the best of both worlds. It's sure to make the next owner very, very happy.
