Car description

Offered at NO RESERVE is a 1991 Ford Mustang LX 5.0 convertible with 43K actual miles. While LX 5.0 convertibles are pretty uncommon in general, this car is also equipped with the 5-speed manual transmission, which is preferred. It's also a fairly rare color combination, in Deep Emerald Metallic with a white leather interior - similar, but not exactly identical, to the 1990 "7-Up" livery.

I have been an MCA member for over a decade, and have owned six Fox-Body 5.0 Mustangs since buying a new GT hatchback in 1988, so I know these cars very well. I had never owned an LX convertible before, and I was impressed with the clean, rust-free, accident-free, low-mile, stock, unmolested condition of this car, as well as the color combination, so I added it to my stable in 2015. I have enjoyed it for two years, but now it's time to move on to something different. The car is sold with a clear Ohio title in my name, and the mileage islisted as actual on the title (both CARFAX and AutoCheck support the mileage).

This LX 5.0 Mustang has survived its 26 years completely stock, except for the addition of Flowmaster mufflers and tailpipes. Everything else is exactly the way Ford built it in February of 1991, including the stock airbox, manifolds, H-pipe with catalytic converters, shifter, Pony wheels, and 2.73 Traction-Lock differential - even a paper air filter. As you probably know, these cars are getting increasingly difficult to find in stock condition.
This car was fully Ziebarted when it was new, and the body remains absolutely 100% rust free. It was never driven in the winter months. The undercarriage still retainsall of theZiebart undercoating and will probably last forever! The suspension parts have a light coat of grime and surface corrosion on them, as they all do when they are driven, but should clean up easily if that is your thing. Overall this looks like a 2-3 year old car underneath.

Please be aware that this Mustang was repainted, fairly early in its life and presumably under warranty, by a Ford dealer for the clearcoat issues that were so common back then. The car is accident-free (verified by a cleanCARFAX and AutoCheck)and all the body panels are still wearing their original VIN stickers. The paint isgood for a dealership job - not perfect, but very impressive to most who see it - and it certainly has held up better than the original paint job would have. All the jambs retain original paint. There are of course a few small chips, dings, and minor scratches that one would expect from 43K miles and 20+ yearsof use. The bumpers are very crisp and don't have the waviness that these cars sometimes display. As you would expect with such low mileage, the headlights are the original Ford units and still look bright and clear!

I actually drive my old cars often in summer weather, taking day tours in them all around the state, and I demand that they be reliable. I can't stand to have something not working on a car. Literally EVERYTHING works as designed on this Mustang. The A/C is cold (converted to R134), the heat is hot, the power locks and all four power windows work quickly and smoothly, the top goes up and down and latchesjust like new, even the lighter and cruise control work. The car idles perfectly, runs smoothly with plenty of power, and the shifter and clutch are like butter. There are no warning lights on; all theinstruments read normally; and the odometer and trip odometer both work. The car passed Ohio e-Check with flying colors the last time it was tested, in late 2015; it should never need to be tested again in Ohio due toachieving the 25-year threshold.
Since I have owned this Mustang, in addition to normal oil and fluid changes, the following has been done - again, with the priority of maintaining top reliability and functionality:

  • New EGR valve (Motorcraft)

  • New EGR sensor (Motorcraft)

  • New ignition rotor, cap, plugs, and wires (all Motorcraft) - still have original date-coded plug wires in a box

  • New ignition switch

  • New power window switches in both doors (Ford NOS)

  • New power lock switches (Ford NOS)

  • New battery

  • New starter motor

  • New KYB struts and shocks, complete set including the two Quad Shocks

  • Alignment

The convertible top is fairlynew and is in fine condition with no cuts or fraying. It is weather-tight. The car's original top was white; the previous owner decided to replace it with a black top, which is easier to keep clean and in my opinion looks better on these cars anyway. The original white top boot has hardly ever been used and looks good.

The Z-rated BF Goodrich tires have lots of tread and even wear. The brakes are at least 50% all around. All of the coolant hoses as well as the serpentine belt are newer and very pliable. The parking brake works great. The radiator appears to be the original Ford unit, but is holding its own; the car runs cool even on the hottest days. I was told that the heater core was replaced several years back - however, I have no documentation of this. I do know that it doesn't leak! Nothing is needed to get in this car today and start using it as a daily driver, if that is what you want to do.

As far as documentation, I have the original owners' manual and sales brochure, as well as a printed copy of the clean CARFAX that I ran before I bought it. I also have all the receipts for everything I have done to the car during my ownership. Unfortunately I do not have the original window sticker.

Known flaws:

  • The white leather seats are starting to show some minor wear, particularly the driver's seat bottom. It's all intact, it's just starting to get that cracked look that white leather always seems to get over time, especially in convertibles. There is also a small 1" split in the rear seat (see photo). In my opinion the seats are perfectly fine for a driver, but if you want a trophy-winning show car, you'll have to address this. Replacement kits are now available through LMR and other vendors.

  • The sill moldings on top of the doors are showing UV damage (VERY common on the '87-'93 cars) - see photo. All the other plastic/rubber trim looks good. Again, replacement moldings are available.

  • The original Ford cassette player still works, butcassettes don't soundvery good. The AM/FM radio is loud and clear, and all four speakers are working, so I'm assuming it's the tape head.

  • The normal squeaks and rattles that these convertibles were known to exhibit after a few years. Nothing too severe, but if you've never owned one of these cars, be aware that it's definitely no Mercedes, nor is it a 2017 Mustang. The good news is that with the top down, all you hear is the wonderful 5.0 Mustang exhaust note. J

Finally, a word about me. I am not a car dealer but an enthusiast who enjoys occasionally buying, enjoying, and then selling older cars. I have sold a number of my cars on eBay since 2001, with 100% positive feedback. Bid with confidence, and if you have a question that I haven't already answered in my description, please ask!

I have done my best to describe this Mustang. It is in great shape and I would trust it to drive any distance, but remember that it is also 26 years old - therefore it is sold with no warranty of any kind. If you're a local buyer, I would encourage you to inspect the car prior to bidding. I am available most evenings and weekends to show the car, with fair notice. The car is garaged at my home in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. If you are a long-distancebuyer and decide to fly in to retrieve the car, I can pick you up at CAK (closest airport) or CLE.

The winning bidder will be required to place a $500 Paypal deposit within 48 hours of winning the auction. If you are able to pick the car up and pay in full within 48 hours, this requirement will be waived. In any event full payment is due and the car must be picked up within 7 days. Remainder of payment in full must be by cash or cashier's check from a U.S. bank ONLY - no wire transfers, overseas accounts or other shenanigans. Please have your finances in order BEFORE bidding.
I do not have a Buy-It-Now price, so don't bother asking. This is a NO-RESERVE sale; the eBay community will determine the value of this car in the course of the auction. I have sold all my cars this way and have found it to be a very fair and equitable system. I am not interested in trades.

Good Luck and Happy Bidding!!
