1967 Mustang Fastback 289 3 speed manual tranny and fold down rear seat.
This is a car that I bought about 5 months ago off ebay and the car came from Indiana. I am going to tell you the story so there should be little if any questions.
I paid $6500 and some odd change for the car. The cars previous owner oddly professed how the car had been off the road for nearly 25 years. Well my take on that was the car had cragers on it, flat tires and locked up wheels and a seized engine too. But it was a complete fastback. I will tell you I certainly know my way around these cars and not to challenge the brain but I am sure not many know these cars better than I. why do I tell you that, again more to the story.
I currently own a 67 gt350 and a 2007 gt500. Both cars are too nice to drive. And further about a year ago I bought and sold a 68 GT fastback. Well it was at that point I bought 2 fastbacks. A 1968 which is in the paint and body shop right now and this car. Mainly the only reason for offering this car for sale at this time is this car should have been in the paint shop already (IE my guy is proceeding slower than I expected him too).
Since the car reached NJ, the first thing I wanted to do was make the car run, in order to do so I had the original engine rebuilt (that’s right that is not a painted clean ford small block, it is new and looks look under the valve covers etc. So if you want to come look at the car, please do and we will take a 7/16 socket and pull a valve cover if you wish and check out under the valve cover and then there will be no questions. On the engine is a new water pump, clutch assembly, starter, ignition wiring, battery and what you see is it is still not connected to the fuel system or radiator, and that is because the car should get a rebuilt or gone thru or new rad and same for the fuel system starting back at the tank. Only thing else on the engine that will be needed is an alternator. (BUT make no doubt the car starts at the turn of the key and runs well) while not new the engine is connected to an older dual exhaust which is still completely serviceable. Next was wheels and tires, yes those are original GT wheels which have been restored, sand blasted and painted and a new set of matched 205 70R 14 BFG RWL sport radials. (no miles on the tires yet). And currently the car sits in Boonton,NJ at my friends shop and the car is now getting the brakes working. That will be a new master cylinder, and 4 need wheel cylinders and some brake shoes and hoses, lines where necessary. Then that is the car.
The has had floors replaced but they were not done well so I would plan on doing the floors over, I would plan on replacing the Drivers side front torque box, then the front pieces of the frame rail (in front of the shock towers) in the rear the DS rear frame rail extension is weak and the trunk floor is pushing up. That needs replacement as well.
And lastly for the body, you will need the hood is crap, I have an excellent flat hood that comes with the car, The fenders are actually very very good and the headlight buckets are perfect, I have (see the acapulco blue doors on the trunk lid of the car (1inside and 1 on top). The doors are excellent and much better shape than the originals which are still on the car. Then you go to the quarters and they can be repaired with the patch panels or worst case skins (they really are not badly rotted) and then the tail panel is rotted around the tail light bucket area. I would replace that too. Personally my body guy gave me a $5500 estimate for everything, that is me buying the replacement parts but him doing everything and returning the car to me painted (choice of color and assembled).
I will say title is coming to me in NJ (so clear title in my name. Might have to wait a week or two on that but it is coming..
What else??Basically I figure I can sell this car for what I see bigger projects (cars without engines, or them even installed are going for). So, I will end where I started stating I know these cars very well.. and while this wont be the cheapest mustang fastback you can find (probably) it is priced right and all I need is a realistic serious person to realize that hey this is a fair deal.
