INTRODUCTORY NOTES: The 1955 Thunderbird is undeniably one of the most significant cars of the fabulous 1950s...and was the most talked-about introduction in the industry when it was unveiled in late 1954. Though often characterized as Ford's "answer" to the Corvette, the Thunderbird was really a much different car. It was more aptly characterized as a "personal luxury car" rather than as a sports car. It also had a much wider market appeal, and outsold the Corvette by a considerable margin. Though expanded in 1958 to accommodate four passengers, the personal luxury concept remained and became a Thunderbird hallmark for many years to come - forcing GM to introduce a fleet of their own personal luxury models (i.e. Olds Starfire, Pontiac Grand Prix, Buick Riviera, and Olds Toronado) just to keep up.

LOCATION: Carrollton, GA is approx. 50 miles west of Atlanta.

SOME INTERESTING ORAL HISTORY ABOUT THIS CAR...when cars are over a half-century old, many of them have by then acquired very interesting "oral histories" shared from one owner to the next. This car is no exception. Apparently, there is some NASCAR background via an owner reportedly associated closely with NASCAR. At one time, some very serious Offenhauser equipment was installed - then removed - and sold for as much as the collector paid for the entire car! The engine was subsequently taken to performance engine specialists who verified that some interesting high-performance features remained - namely a high performance cam and carefully rounded ports on the exhaust manifolds which mate perfectly to the custom (with owner's name engraved) ceramic-coated headers from a California fabricator..

EXCELLENT INVESTMENT - the best cars of the 1950s have been "Blue Chip" investments for decades, and will continue to be. The 1955-57 Thunderbirds are unique among all Thunderbirds to come after - and will likely always be the most coveted of the series.

THE FIRST PICTURES will give you a general overview of the T'Bird, but if you are seriously interested...we suggest that you look at ALL 100+ images because we want you to see EVERYTHING. This is one of those rare vehicles that impresses you more, the CLOSER you LOOK!

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING...TO SEE ALL THE IMAGES: There are over 100 images that will show the car in great detail. BUT, to see ALL of the images, you MUST place your cursor DIRECTLY ON an image...and then scroll gently ALL the way to the bottom (be sure to allow time for all the images to load). CAUTION: If you use the scroll bar to the FAR right of your screen - OR, the "Click to View Image Album" feature - you will NOT be able to see all the images!
Over 2,600 TRANSACTIONS WITH HAPPY PEOPLE! As of the date of this listing, we've had over 2,600 transactions (both Buying AND Selling) on eBay without a single complaint. BEAUTIFUL ORIGINAL COLOR...the color code on the data plate is "T" which - depending upon your internet source - is identified as "Turquoise" or "Thunderbird Blue" (and also as "Skyhaze Green" on 1955 Ford Color matching sheets from Ditzler). Thunderbird Club members interchangeably refer to the color as any one of those three names. But, what ever you choose to call it, it's one of the iconic 1950s pastels that instantly bring about the glamour of that automotive era.

OPERATIONAL REPORT: The car is a blast to drive...getting enthusiastic "thumbs up" from all age groups. With its manual steering, brakes, and transmission (with overdrive) it is a true driver's car.

Everything works, with the following minor exceptions...

  • Power Seat (motor was removed many years ago...seat is fixed in position for max legroom/headroom)
  • Clock
  • Tach Needle needs to be replaced
  • Original Radio bypassed in favor of modern AM/FM/CD/Flash Drive unit
  • The chromed steering column "telescoping" feature is "stuck" and not adjustable...it may just need careful "encouragement" after being in the current position for so long
  • Note: No fender skirts! The open-wheel look was preferred because it's consistent with the performance history of this particular car, and also with the look of many performance-version T'Birds of the mid-1950s. Therefore, the restoration was done without regard to fitting fender skirts and the buyer is advised that some fender work would likely be necessary to "fit" fender skirts if ever desired in the future.

ABOUT ME: I am an avid Classic Car enthusiast. After retiring from 30 years of Sales & Marketing in a Global 100 company, I began buying and selling Classic Cars and Collectibles as a collector and for friends and clients. This 1955 Thunderbird belongs to a fellow Thunderbird enthusiast and club member.
Please Note: as of this date, we have had over 2,700 eBay transactions with 100% Positive Feedback...this includes the sale of many Classic Cars to Buyers all over the world, including Great Britain, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, France, Australia, Russia, Canada, Japan and throughout the United States.
IMPORTANT FINAL REMARKS: . A Notarized Bill of Sale and the Vehicle Registration will be provided to the Buyer. NOTE: the State of Georgia did not issue auto titles back in 1955 - and so they do not do so for those cars even today! Instead, the registration card has a "Non-Title" notation and also serves as the owners legal proof of ownership. Rest assured that every state must respect all other states' motor vehicle laws, and that the car can be successfully registered and insured in any state.

This Vehicle is sold strictly as-shown and on a final as-is basis without any warranties expressed or implied due to age. Even the very best restored classics - such as this one - will require additional maintenance and service - often without warning. We have presented the car accurately to the best of our ability, but oversights are possible. Therefore - BEFORE the auction's end - bidders are welcome to examine the vehicle in person. All sales are final.

Please be sure to review ALL the images and ALL the captions because they relate important information too!
