Truck is setup for Trails/Woods and moderate rock-crawling but is still streetable. Everyone thinks their open-diffed truck is "built" after they put on a Superlift kit; this truck is pretty built with the Lockers, Cage/Duffy Radius Arms, and generally being really, really well sorted - just not pretty. No vibrations, deathwobble, You've likely never been in a pre-79 ford that had much of anything left of the door/window seals in the last 20 years - it's a game changer for a trip that lasts more than a few minutes even if that trip is through the woods in 5 (or 100) Degree temperatures. Truck is definitely not shiney but the first time you are on anything more serious than a fire-road you are going to be glad you didn't spend extra for paint. If you are on a farm, skip the Side-by-side and get three times the capability for 1/3 the price - that was certainly my plan.
Issues: Parking brake cable and pedal are still free but are not connected, front turn signals need replacement sockets (the ground rusted on both of them in the last few years), Driver's Side topper glass was shattered (pictured) years ago; someone might want to replace it eventually. With that said drive it anywhere - I just checked fluids (Axles, T-Case, Trans) and the truck drives nice.
'78 4-Speed with COLD Factory AirCage/Duffy Tubular Long Travel Radius Arms and Correct C-Bushings (Ideal Caster)Aussie Locker in the Front D44Detroit Locker in the Rear 9" (All new seals and Timken bearings)Massive DOM Draglink and Tie-Rod Steering (Tie-Over) with 1-Ton High-Angle Tie-Rod ends and drop Pitman. (You want high angle TREs if you go over 5")NP205 - With Twin Stick - If you have Automatic lockers you'll want a twin-stick in the woods.NP435 - 6.68:1 1st gear.3.50 Gears (I suppose this is something people might want to change but I always drove it to trails and preferred the sane RPM on the interstate. It's still fairly crawly and will break the swampers loose in hi-range with no effort. I'd rather have a doubler.)Rear spring perch+wedge replaced with appropriately clocked 3/8" perches (Correct Driveshaft Angle without block or wedge, Original Wedges always fracture and Original brackets fold easily)Deaver (soft) 8" Coils.Older Rebuild 351M with rear bearing oil-tube installedNew HEI distributorEdelbrock SP2P Aluminum Intake (500-3500RPM, Dominates on low rpm torque production.)Autolite 2100 2BBL (One of the most desirable offroad Carbs, runs at nearly any angle).New RadiatorNew pads/shoes, front rotors, and wheel cylinders, correct braided extended brake lines front and rear, new vacuum booster & master cylinder.New Clutch, Throw-out bearing, and Pilot Bearing4-Row Aluminum Finned Power-Steering cooler (Important on the trail - will boil without)High-Mounted Steering damper.Good ExhaustNice Dark-tan bench.Large toolbox down length of bed (to leave room for spares) - I do have the original seat if you want it.New Plastic 25 Gallon gas tank with Stainless straps, pickup/sending unit, and Fuel pump37" SSR Super Swampers and Spares. One spare on wheel, one spare not mounted plus a third spare on wheel that could be patched. All 37" SSR Swampers with good tread (10/32) All 6 wheels are new American Racing Steelies.Front-Porch/Winch BumperNew Door and Window guide/surround/wiper seals, other details like, clutch rod seal.
Truck has been on four or five trail rides in the area (Flat-Nasty/Washita) and virtually never driven otherwise so most of these parts are essentially new. The kinks have been worked out; if you are familiar with these trucks you will be happy to find that all of the issues everyone runs into (Rusty Fuel Tank, Inop Tailgate, Glass/Door Seals and so on...) have been taken care of.
Vehicle is for sale locally - auction will end if a local sale goes through.
