Here she is, y pride and joy: 1964 2wd long wheelbase stepside Ford F100. She's not a show truck, ut a strong daily driver that could easily become a show truck. I had some modifcations done to her that enhance drivability and safety without compromising the stock look I love so much in the 64s. Here's a list a what's done to her:
She still has the original 292 Y block that runs absolutely beautifully.
I have had the entire engine professionally rebuilt and the block powdercoated. Only about 1000 miles have been put on the truck since then. There's a new high torque starter on her and a new Optima deep cycle battery to fire it off. Also, brand new MSD electronic distributer.
I've got a new (M2R2) five-speed transmission and new clutch installed that shifts like a dream. This truck came with a granny four speed so this was done for fuel economy and speed.
The front end has a custom independent suspension and power disc brakes along with power steering. This truck drives like a late model and will happily go down the road at 70 mph all day. All while looking like a stock pickup.
I've got an air conditioner that runs so cold I usually have to turn it down or off; even in July in Louisiana! This might be my favorite aspect of this truck.
I removed the original in-cab fuel tank and installed a 20 gallon tank between the frame under the bed. I've got a stylish stainless steel fuel fill and cap that is from a small yacht. This added four gallons of capacity and solved the problem of smelling fuel after a sharp right turn. Also allows the seat to move farther back or have a bit of cargo space behind the seat.
CONDITION
The interior paint is original and looks great for it's age. I've really tried to show it as well as possible in the photos.
The exterior paint is about six years old and also looks great. The exterior has various small dings and imperfections; this was a work truck for several decades, ut nothing too bad at all. The driver's door does have a dent from loading on a trailer unaligned. That one's my fault and it still chafes me, ut doesn't affect the door's functionality. Overall the presentation of this vehicle is very strong.
The bed is sheet metal and was installed soon after the truck's original purchase.
All glass is in perfect condition. I've got a new front windshield; the rear is original. New door rubbers, new window rubbers, xcept the triangle windows, hose still have original rubbers in decent shape.
All six tires are new and have a full life of tread left in them.
HISTORY
This truck was originally purchased in Groom, exas and was a work truck for the Groom Elevator Co. I purchased this truck from the current husband of the widow of the first owner, o she really hasn't changed hands much through the years! I bought her to use as a daily driver, ut upon acquiring a company truck through my employment, his became a weekend cruiser. I don't drive it in the rain and I keep it out of the weather and locked up when not in use.
