OVERVIEW:This 1965 Ford Mustang Coupe originally came from southern California. It spent about 10 years as a personal vehicle of a hobbyist in Las Vegas who subsequently performed a full restoration on the car, rior to which it was a very solid and rust free example. The car was purchased by its present owner in 2009, nd has travelled just over 3,000 miles since restoration was completed. Serial # 5R07C231514, ndicates it is a San Jose built hardtop originally equipped with a 289 ci. 2 bbl. V8. The original door tag was blasted, ut provides the following decoded info; Body 65A - 2 Door Hardtop with Standard Interior Color 8 - Springtime Yellow Trim 26 - Black Crinkle Vinyl Trim Date 10T - June 10, 965 DSO 71 - Los Angeles Axle 6 - 2.80:1, onventional Trans 6 - C4 Automatic The restoration process included complete disassembly and many new parts, ncluding new front fenders. Changes from original specs include color, nd 4 bbl. carburation. The engine was professionally rebuilt, new mechanical components installed, new interior kit, nd some new brightwork. This car is not a trailer queen, nd it has very good curb appeal. It has been and remains a very roadworthy and reliable driver, nd has not been abused. Under the current owner, he car has never been winter driven. It has never had any serious rust issues and remains a very solid car. It is a definite head turner where ever it goes. DRIVETRAIN: The 289 ci. engine is believed to be original to the car, lthough not confirmed, nd it now sports a 4 bbl. carb. General appearance of the engine bay is tidy and detailed, lthough it is dusty from recent miles. The engine starts well, ounds good, nd runs smooth and strong with no smoke or irregular sounds. It displays good highway acceleration. All other components under the hood are either new or rebuilt and most items appear as original equipment, nd in good roadworthy condition. This includes all belts, oses, nd wiring. Upgraded items are the chrome air cleaner, nd aluminum bladed fan. The car also has aftermarket air conditioning, lthough not currently operational, eason unknown. Overall there are no serious leaks evident on the underside, ust the usual minor 'sweat' drips that one finds on any driven vehicle. CHASSIS:The unibody undercarriage shows no evidence of serious rust issues, ither currently, r prior to restoration. Floor pans, ront and rear frame rails, orque boxes, ront shock towers, ear quarter inner drop down panels, ll appear to be solid originals. The front rails have some minor dents but are solid. A thin coat of undercoating was applied for protection, ut does not appear to be hiding anything of concern. The undercarriage is not super clean or highly detailed, nd shows the road dirt of its miles, ut there is no evidence of rust out, ot, r any other significant issues. Inspection only revealed one visible patch, mall, bout 4"x2", uter edge of passenger front floor. Other than dual exhaust, verything appears correct and in good to excellent condition, nd as original equipment. All suspension, ront end, nd standard brake system components either new or restored. The car maintains a nice stance. This car is equipped with power steering. A split was detected in the fluid return hose at time of picture taking and was corrected, his leakage accounts for the wetness visible on some front end parts. On a road test the car steered true and braking was even. The running tires are a matched set of Michelin P205/70/R14 radial white walls in like new condition. The spare is a P185/65R14. They are all mounted on steel rims with stock hubcaps. BODY & PAINT:It appears this was a good solid car body prior to restoration, nd that the owner opted for new front fenders and other small front end sheet metal. Being as the work is over 6 years old, nferior repairs would have shown up by now, one have. I believe this is a very solid car with no hidden surprises or weak areas. Body and paint work is good. The body and all panels on this car are overall quite straight, ith only the most minor of blemishes and imperfections if you look for them very closely. Tops of both fenders have waviness from minor dents. I suspect this is more to do with elbows leaning over the engine bay than poor body work as the rest of the panels are good and straight. Panel alignment and gaps are likely within original Mustang parameters, lthough the left door could use a minor fit adjustment. The paint work quality and overall finish is very good. It is quite nice, mooth, as excellent shine, nd is in overall very good condition. It shows little to none in the way of scratches or chips from its miles of use since completion, nd only the most minor of blemishes. Various new rubber items and weather seals throughout the car. ELECTRICAL:The wiring appears in good order. All lights and turn signals are in working order, s are the wipers and horn. It is equipped with an original AM radio. It and the clock are not working. The after-market air conditioning system appears complete, ut is not in working condition, or is the heater fan. Reason unknown as it has not been investigated. Stock gauges operational and in very good condition. All plastic lenses are in very good condition. INTERIOR:A complete new interior kit was installed, o the interior on this car is very nice and remains in very good condition. This includes the seat covers, oor panels, rm rests, ash pad, arpeting, eadliner, ind lacing, nd pedal pads. New weather strips, lass seals and sweepers are also evident. It is equipped with seat belts for 4 passengers. The steering wheel shows no cracks. The horn ring is also nice, lthough its fit is a bit loose and the owner has a small piece of cardboard tucked under the lower spoke to keep it from rattling. The bright trim in the interior is in very nice condition. New repro sill scuff plates were installed, ut now show some minor scuffing. All glass on the car is in very good condition, ncluding the windshield which is shaded. All other glass is clear. The trunk lid has been fitted with hydraulic lifts, nd the trunk is fully carpeted, long with the spare cover. BRIGHTWORK:Most bright trim and chrome items on the car are either new, e-chromed, r excellent originals polished and restored to new condition. Overall finish and shine is very good. The grille is straight and in very good condition. The center pony surround is original, shows some minor pitting, nd slight peeling of the silver paint. The front bumper is very straight, nd shows only some minor scuffs. The rear bumper is very nice. Other chromed pot metal items such as hood letters, ender emblems, oor handles, uarter panel scoops, ail lamp bezels and gas cap are in excellent condition. The windshield trim moldings are nice, ront vent window chrome surrounds are good, ear quarter window surrounds show minor blemishes and pits. Nice and straight aluminum rocker moldings, nd large round chrome exhaust tips. Original style hubcaps are in very good condition with nice emblems.
