Car description

This is a very rare 1970 Mustang Mach 1 that was originally delivered with the "Q" code version of Fords mighty 428 Cobra Jet engine and a close ratio 4 speed toploader transmission. This car is in outstanding cosmetic and mechanical condition, ased in inland California and Arizona almost all of its life with only 3 known owners. 1970 big block Mach 1's are much rarer than the 1969 cars with only about a quarter of the production numbers. The Deluxe Marti report for this car shows that only 320 Mach 1's with the 428 Q code engine and four speed transmission were built, nd these 320 Q code four speed cars were the fewest of all 428 Mach 1's produced in 1970! The body on this car is in spectacular condition with laser straight sheet metal and what looks like all original body panels, o known rust or repairs, ndercarriage appears all original with no visible rust, he body is as close to perfect and original as a car of this vintage can get. The engine currently installed is not the original to the car but I was told by the previous owner that it is a 1970 428 engine (date code cast on the engine is 0619, hich is 6/19/70). The car has been repainted, ot sure the age of the paint but it is very presentable and glossy but there are some flaws, few small chips here and there (largest ones on the hood right edge) there is also some color variation in some areas of the paint but overall as the photos show this car presents very well. The black interior is also in great shape including all the seats, arpet, eadliner, ash pad (which is new) door panels and trim, would rate the interior as very good . The previous owner of 20 years told me that when I purchased the car in May of 2005 that he bought the car from the original owner. I was also told by the seller that the odometer reading at the time of about 112,000 was original mileage, have put less than 2,000 miles on the car since then and the current odometer reading is 13,642 miles. The following is what I was told by the previous owner about the engine. The original engine was blown so he located a 1970 428 "police interceptor" engine, he partial VIN casting number on this engine (right rear of block, elow the head is 0Z5816000, he 0 is for built in 1970, nd I have been told the Z is for the St. Louis plant, here Ford built Merc Police Cars) the date code casting on the engine is 0619 (6/19/70) so I do know for sure this is a 1970 FE engine. No build sheet or engine documents were supplied to me but the previous owner informed me that the engine was professionally rebuilt by a race engine specialist shortly before I bought the car in 2005, bout 5,000 miles ago with the following: 10 - 1 compression pistons, rower roller cam and roller rockers (roller rockers have been verified), lderbrock Performer aluminum heads and aluminum intake manifold, ong tube headers run into full length exhaust. Also equipped with a manual choke Elderbrock 800 cfm carb, allory dual point distributor and a MSD ignition box. This big block Ford starts right up, uns smooth with a slight cam lope, oes not use any oil, moke, eak or overheat. This engine runs very strong on premium pump gas and has a very impressive muscle car exhaust sound. The close ratio top loader transmission has a factory installed Hurst shifter (installed transmission tag number is, UG AE2 014995, his number indicates a close ratio toploader for a 428 Mustang. Transmission shifts smoothly and quietly into all gears and the clutch operates without chatter or slippage. The 9 inch big tube rear end has the correct staggered shocks, nd is equipped with a Detroit Locker center section with 3.50 gears, ear end also has aftermarket under ride Shelby style traction bars and a rear sway bar which improves handling. This Mach 1 has the correct style 15-inch Magnum 500 wheels (very accurate aftermarket reproductions) with P245 160R15 BFG T/A radial tires, nly about 3 1/2 years and 500 miles on the rims and tires. According to the Deluxe Marti report the following items on this car were factory installed options, our speed close ratio manual transmission, lack hood stripe, ports deck rear seat (fold down) stereo radio (original AM/8 track radio has been upgraded to AM/FM/cassette, he door speakers were factory installed ) intermittent windshield wipers, inted glass, eluxe seat belts with seat belt warning light (old /worn driver and front passenger shoulder harness and seat belts were replaced by period correct and safer Scott Drake retractor type belts) This car was originally equipped with factory manual drum front and rear brakes and single reservoir master cly, ery unique as almost all Mach 1's had power front disc brakes, nique was nice but it was not much when it came to stopping power so the brakes were upgraded to a Stainless Steel Brakes 4 piston front disc system with dual reservoir / power boosted master. The four piston front calipers are similar to the early Mustang Kelsey-Hayes style disc brakes and stop the car great. I will include the old drum brake parts including front spindles in sale if buyer wants them. All exterior lights work including the "Sports Lights" in the front grill, ll interior lights and dash lights work as well. All engine gauges work, peedometer checked accurate with GPS to within a couple MPH), he clock is inop (like most of them) The turn signals, ipers and horn work, he defroster blows warm air and the temp control works, he heat/defrost control does not switch to blow on the lower position, ould be a control cable issue. This car was in dry, oncrete floored indoor storage all of the time I have owned it and the previous owner stored it inside as well. The following work has been recently done to refresh from storage and get this great Mach 1 ready for trouble free driving. Radiator core out, new thermostat, ad cap and new coolant, ngine oil and filter changed, ransmission fluid changed, lutched adjusted, new electronic voltage regulator, new valve cover gaskets, new oil pressure sending unit, new water temp sender. New Scott Drake driver and front passenger seat belts with retractor type shoulder harness. I have been driving the car for the last few weeks since this work was done and there are no running or driving issues, ngine runs very strong, he car handles well and drives and stops straight. The manual steering is tight and it cruises along at freeway speeds with no problems. This Mach 1 is ready to be driven and enjoyed, ne of the last true classic Mustang's and arguably the best looking body style of all the Mustangs. With such a low production number this car is one of the rarest Mach 1's ever produced and is sure to be a good investment. This car is for sale locally and subject to prior sale prior to auction ending. If serious about buying / bidding I encourage you or your agent to come inspect this car in person. Car is in drivable storage and about a 20 minute drive from the Phoenix International Airport (PHX)
