Car description |
---|
Up for auction is this 1954 Ford Crestline 4dr sedan. It features Ford's first OHV 239 cu in Y-Block V8. Y-Block engines had a unique firing order that gave them a one of a kind sound with dual exhaust. There are people that search high and low for Y-Blocks to put in rat rods for the sound the exhaust produces, lus they have distinct look of their own. They can also be built to produce more horse power than the earlier flat heads. This car has the Ford- O- Matictransmission, ual exhaust, tandard brakes and steering.
I have taken it out and driven around a bit and the tranny shifts and the engine runs out ok but I'm sure it could use a carburetor cleaning and tuned up by an old school mechanic that knows how to set dwell angle, iming and fuel mixture. The brake pedal is up and it stops but the brakes should be gone through to be safe in my opinion. It has some oil leaks particularly on the transmission. I keep a drip pan under it while in my garage.
The car was painted about ten years ago with base coat and clear. The clear has started to come off and unless the rat rod look is what you want, hould be fine tuned and repainted. The left front fender has been recently replaced and the color match is not good. Thesheet metal looks to be in pretty good shape but there are somerust bubbles corrosionon the lower body parts in certain places. Thereis alsoa few bubbles to the right of the trunk emblem and a spot about the size of a half dollar about 6 inches above the middle of the rear glass. The drivers side window is broken. The floors, runk, nner fender wells and body mounts are in pretty good shape. (see pics of both lower panels and undercarriage). The car has been in southern Idahofor years if not from brand new. It is nothing like the rust buckets they patch up, aint the rusty chrome grills with silver rattle can paint, hrow on a paint job and sell for $13k on reality shows. ( in reference to the 1954 Crestline 4dr they sold on Dallas Car Shar----goggle it and watch the episode)
The interior has been done as pictured. Every thing was done in brown cloth. The seats are fine but he door panels and headliner needreinstalled by a professional.Someone installed new door seals and they won't let the doors set in far enough to be flush with the body parts. This needs to be corrected with latch work or trimming the rubber. This is a commonproblem with new door seals.
The dash area looks pretty nice and is complete. All the knobs are there and in real nice condition. The oil and gen light work as do headlights, ail lights, rake light(one side). Dash lights, ignals, eater, ipers as mentioned in vehicle condition section above, eed tinkering.
This all being said, t is a pretty nicelooking year and model car that is worth the effort to finish a few things and have a nice little nostalgic cruiser for the weekends without having to invest thousands of dollars.
