Fiat released their first Spider model in 1966. This small, lightweight roadster was a direct competitor for cars like the MG B or the Triumph TR6. The Fiat had quite a few items that were technologically more advanced than the British sports cars of the time. All Spiders had coil springs in all four corners, where some competitors had leaf springs. They also had a twin overhead cam four cylinder which was a rev happy and peppy little gem. Displacement changed over the years and by '82 had grown to 2.0 Liters, hence the "2000 Spider" name. Also by '82 fuel injection had been added which was also rather advanced for its time. Where most of its competitors had 4 speed transmissions, the Fiat had a 5-speed manual and optional automatic. Sprinkle in liberal Italian flair, and this is the obvious choice over its British counterparts.

This particular 2000 Spider is a well maintained low mileage example with recent restoration work. While the odometer shows over 146,000 miles, the engine has had a full rebuild less than 3,000 miles ago. When the engine was rebuilt, the compression was also bumped a little to bring it up to 10:1. A good example to start, the car has received a completely new paintjob just to spruce it up back to its original glory. The body is straight and solid and the red paint is not only eye catching, but also perfect for this little Italian gem. The bumpers, brackets, and headlight rings have all been re-chromed, and there is a new windshield. In addition to a fresh exterior finish, the interior has also been updated with a new dash, upper and lower console, door panels, and stainless gauge bezels. The seats are from a Mazda Miata, and yes, the headrest speakers work. On the underside of the car, we have new Wilwood front disc brakes, Koni shocks, and a bolt in roll bar for both added safety and chassis stiffness. The result is a beautiful Spider that runs and drives even better than it looks. If you haven't driven a Fiat Spider, you truly are missing out. They have plenty of power, handle like a go kart, and with the top down they have a fun factor that you just can't get with a hard top. These cars are a bit of a hidden gem of the classic European car world. Snatch this one up before anyone else catches on.
