I think this car is a 1982, could be an 80 or 81 will have to verify the year.
I purchased in 1999 and hate to part with this car, I will have to just bite the bullet and sell it even though it really bothers me. Selling to pay closing costs on a house, unfortunately.
This is a well-preserved example of a Spider 2000, not restored, doesn't really need any complicated repairs to be enjoyed.
Nice little car, not rusted out except for area on the trunk lid and hood, see photos. Most of the car works fine, has a lazy turn signal, sticky ignition switch, tires are old, wipers do not work, power windows are sluggish, muffler/tailpipe broken, fuel injection system sometimes decides to idle high.
I take this car out on I-78 sometimes, it can cruise at 70 miles per hour without scaring you to death, unlike the 1977 I had before this one. The later 124's had a bunch of sound dampening rubber added to the body much like the VWs of the same era, so you don't fell like you are driving a tin can. Drives like a more modern car for that reason. The handling in this is also excellent, keeping into account the 13" tires will break free if you take a curve too fast. I came close to wiping out once by assuming it would keep it's lane in a hairpin turn, was able to snap the car back into its lane just in time to avoid oncoming traffic. Lesson learned. So just a thought, even if you can have fun flinging this little car around corners doesn't mean you should!
Roof is in good condition, engine is really reliable. The timing belt and head gasket were done 20 years ago, so it is due for a new belt and taking it on any long trip might risk engine damage. This car might really be due for a valve adjustment also, I did not realize they were adjustable back in 1999 when I did the head replacement.
Best to ship this car, I could deliver to NJ by driving it to you, but would need a ride back.
