Car description |
---|
1979 Ferrari 308 GTS, VIN 27685, showing 34,800 miles on the chassis. Complete but currently non-running.
Body and chassis are in very good condition having (as far as the records I have) spent the majority of its life in central Texas area (Dallas-Ft Worth). Body and chassis are straight with no evidence of damage or repair. There is no evidence of rust on the body panels and only minor surface corrosion on the chassis frame (see photos).
The car does appear to have been resprayed at some point with what it appears to have be the original color (Rosso Corsa). There are some surface blemishes caused during trailer transport (hold down straps) prior to me acquiring the car. Most severe location is near the top of the rear ‘flying buttress’ will likely require some surface restoration (see photos).
All exterior trim, side marker lights and badges are present and in good-to-excellent condition. All front and rear turn signal lamps and lenses and present and in good condition A set of new front signal lens are not installed and do come with the car.
Interior is mostly original, however at some point both seats were spray dyed to a light (buff) tan color. Passenger seat leather is in fair condition, while the driver’s seat leather is in rather poor shape being dried out and hard. All other leather is original black and in fair-to-good condition. Carpets appear to be original and show expected wear. All panel gauges are present. Fuse panel in passenger foot well is complete. I do have a complete set of new OEM relays that go with the car. Original radio is not present, with an aftermarket, removable faceplate unit installed. I do not have either the original radio or the faceplate for the installed unit.
Removal top is in excellent condition with no cracks or other damage. It fits tightly and does not allow water ingress based on a moderate pressure washer test. Top clamps are in good condition, showing no cracks or damage to the rubber.
I also have a pair (driver and passenger) of NOS Vitaloni California outside mirrors (not installed) which will go with the car as well.
Suspension has been completely disassembled, cleaned and rebuilt using new factory spec bushings (including anti-roll bar bushings) and rebuilt shock/spring assemblies. Brake calipers have been rebuilt, new hoses and a rebuilt brake booster installed.
Bridgestone Potenza (date code 0902) are mounted on new 16” (7” wide front & 8” wide rear) reproduction 308 ‘star’ alloy wheels.
Radiator has been cleaned and passed a pressure/leak check within the past 5 years and all new 100% silicon cooling and heater hoses installed with stainless steel clamps.
A/C condenser has been cleaned and penetrant checked showing no cracks. Car comes with both the original reciprocating A/C compressor, as well as a newer rotary compressor. All needed install brackets for both setups are also included. A/C system install on engine has not been completed and therefore, system is not charged.
Engine is not original to the car as it was donated from my 1975 308 GT4. It has approximately 90,000 total miles on it but had a total rebuild done in 1991, with approximately 7,000 miles on the engine since rebuild. Rebuild was performed by Bob Wallace in Phoenix, AZ and included crankshaft replacement. Detailed receipts will be provided with the car. The engine has had a recent (~3 years ago) replacement of all water and oil seals/gaskets (excluding head gaskets). New timing belts also installed at this time. Carburetors have also had a recent rebuild.
The engine has not been run for approximately 8 years and was installed into the GTS body/chassis approximately 3 years ago. The engine has been periodically lubricated during its non-operational time period. Cooling passages were flushed and all external ports sealed until installation into the chassis. Transmission lubricant has been replaced within the past 3 years as well.
Final install and hook-up, start-up and tuning of the engine have not been completed.
I have a complete set of records (parts, service, etc.) for the engine going back to 1983.
Car comes with a clear Ohio title stating odometer mileage is accurate.
Overall, with the exception of some aspects of the interior, the car is in very good, albeit non-running, condition and is complete.
