Car description |
---|
For auction with NO RESERVE is my 1992 Ferrari 348 tb. The car was purchased by me to serve as the basis for a track day/race car. I had desired to make this car race eligible in HSR, but as is often the case in life one never has enough precious time. The car will make a great base to build up a nice, perhaps slightly modified street car to use as a regular driver or even for track days. This car is in very good shape and is really very sound mechanically, however it is not a car that will win a ribbon on the Breakers resort lawn. It is however, as stated, a solid platform to do as you wish. That is precisely why I purchased it - I wanted a car that wasn't a garage queen and I wanted a driver that was fundamentally sound and one that was affordable. As you know since you are reading this, the 348 is a car with a solid engine and drivetrain and actually is easier to maintain when driven regularly. This is a car you can drive and not be worried about a bug or someone touching it in the parking lot. I have contemplated selling this car for a while - I just hate to see it go but it's just sitting here on the lift on a trickle charger. I have been selling some cars and bikes on ebay as I simply don't have time or space in the garage. I will try to succinctly and honestly describe what I know of the car for your review. I am a middle age professional and I do my very best to describe my ebay items as clearly and as transparent as possible. I value the ebay process and want anyone who purchases from me to feel that the description was accurate.
The GOOD - the car has documented low miles (just over 20K) - the engine is in great shape and starts - idles and runs fantastically - the gear box is smooth and quiet (none of the common notchy cold lower gear changes in some 348s) - interior is in great shape with no sticky plastic as these models tend to do - all gauges work fine - no rust or corrosion anywhere including the undercarriage
The NOT SO GOOD - the car carries a branded rebuilt/salvage title due to a minor collision. Its age at the time (11 years old) apparently lead the insurance company to declare it a loss financially. I have documentation that indicates cosmetic damage only with no structural damage whatsoever.
The car was sold new in Los Altos, CA, it was assigned the branded title by the Cali DMV and the car has a history of passing any and all emissions testing in Cali. It then lived its life in St. Louis, MO until I purchased it. The owner prior to me used it as a driver in his collection of exotics. He had all of his cars cared for by one man at a euro car establishment in STL. The car had total service including belts on 4/12/2011. I personally spoke to the technician and he indicated the car needs no service - he said "it's a great car and a great value for a driver Ferrari but it just needs to be driven instead of sitting aroundâ€. The car has only been driven 300 miles since 2011. So if this branded title and history is a problem for you please do not bid on this no reserve auction. I respect your decision to not want a branded title car but for this price point and condition I am certain many buyers like me will enjoy the car for what it is. Price point for a non-branded car in this model is likely to be almost double the price that this one will sell at.
Now on to the car - the car needs an alternator. I am told they are often short-lived on the 348. The other mechanical issue is the headlight switch needs replacing. The headlights pop up and illuminate just fine but they are on while the car is running. I am told this is not a big fix and is common in this model. Other than those two minor issues I am aware of nothing else that that car needs mechanically. I will let my photos speak for themselves as to the car's appearance. I thank you for interest in my car and I try to respond to emails within 24-48 hours. I often work seven day per week rotations for several weeks straight including weekends but I do have email access during those times. Thank you.
