This is a Ferrari Mondial 8 coupe (703 built) that was used as the prototype for Carobu Engineering's 358RR conversion. The idea was to build an 'up to date' version of the Mondial 8. While the basic 2+2 body was practical (having extra cockpit room is a real plus), he car lacked real performance. The original 3.0 liter engine was anemic producing about 190 HP and 185 lb-ft of torque. This, oupled with the original weight of close to 3,600 lbs., ade for a lethargic performer by Ferrari standards. The recipe was simple; lose weight and increase power. Carobu reduced the weight by 200 lbs. and increased the power to 306 HP and 265 lb-ft of torque (see graph). In addition to increasing the go factor, he suspension and brakes were also upgraded to deal with this increased performance. 18" wheels wrapped in Bridgestone Pole Position tires are controlled by the Razzo Rosso/Koni coil-over suspension. The brakes were converted to 330mm sized rotors clamped by AP racing aluminum calipers. Granted, his isn't a stock Ferrari Club concorso kind of Mondial; it is an outlaw. It is also a bit of a sleeper as the performance is transforming; more 348 than Mondial 8. The torque produced by the engine allows 5th gear acceleration from 3,000 rpm to redline in a constant hard push; something that didn't happen with the original engine. This Mondial is a very nice long-distance cruiser or a fun track day car. All this performance increase was done without altering the outward appearance of the engine - it looks absolutely standard. With the recent rise in 308 based car values, he practical Mondial models are rising too. This unique version by Carobu Engineering will gain even more than a standard model. As an example, 308 GT4 with the 358RR engine recently sold for $110,000 at auction. While this Mondial isn't that valuable, t is headed in the same direction. See the Carobu website for more info on the car and the parts added. Check out the dyno page and project car pages as well as the parts catalog. Overall there has been close to $50,000 worth of upgrades made to this Mondial. The car is currently located near Albuquerque, M and is currently registered with NM vanity plates "358RR". The original muffler and emissions equipment are included in the sale. Sold 'as is where is'. There is a reserve on the auction, ut please don't ask what it is - the auction will go the distance so please, o offers of "stop the auction". If the car doesn't make reserve, e are open to offers after the end of the auction. Contact Tate Casey (949-378-thirtytwo26) for answers to questions/additional photos concerning the Mondial.
