RESTORED 1958 EDSEL PACER for sale. (VIN W8UH-711879) 4Dr Hardtop, hite on red in color, ith matching interior colors. Restoration to original is mostly complete. Paint shines like new. Factory rebuilt E400 engine (361 CI) purrs like a kitten with stock Holley 4-barrel and dual exhaust. Power steering, verything else manual. (stock)
Its story is, he car belonged to my wife's aging grandfather who gave it to her uncle who had it restored in the 1980's. After showing it some (won 3rd place in St. Louis), er uncle gave it to my wife and me. We drove it only a short while before I went back to school and we parked it in a closed building for many years. This year we decided it was time to refresh the restoration and find it a new home since we just have too many other projects to take proper care of this beautiful car.
I have just replaced all wheel cylinders, leaned the drums and rebuilt the master cylinder. (brake shoes were like new since this car has been driven very little since restoration...) I also replaced the gas tank, as line to fuel pump hose, uel filter and a rusty section of the gas line itself. Also undercoated the tank and cleaned out the entire gas line. Gas flow is fine now. I also rebuilt the Holley 4-bbl and replaced the plug wires. I removed, hecked and replaced the starter and the starter solenoid. Removed, hecked and replaced the oil pump and water pump. It starts on the first turn and runs smoothly. Runs with 40-55 psi oil pressure.
Added transmission fluid and tranny works fine, hifts through all gears, ncluding reverse; push button shifter works fine. I cleaned and painted most of the engine as I repaired and replaced various parts, o it looks as good as it runs. (did not have the stock yellow or beige so used red and silver with the black) Cleaned and de-greased engine compartment and had interior and upholstery professionally cleaned. I must say this is a very nice looking car, nd fun to drive.
Now for the things needing attention. (1) There are some "hairline cracks" on the right-rear door and adjacent quarter panel that show tiny amounts of dark exudate. I do not know but suspect this is from rust beneath a body repair done in the past. This "flaw" is not conspicuous but will eventually need attention. The right-rear door functions more "stiffly" than the other doors and I suspect there was damage to this part of the car in its past. (right-rear door opens & closes but is not as "effortless" as the others) (2) The red paint on the exterior has some "age spots" but I do not know the cause. They are hard to see unless pointed out. (3) There is mice damage to the right side of the rear seat cover, nd the white sections of the seats have mice stains that did not come out completely... the seats may need to be re-covered to fix these flaws. (4) The battery is not the correct fit but is almost new and works fine. (must be changed to make car truly "stock") (5) And finally, here are a number of small imperfections in the body including cracked paint in a couple of spots and dings in the bumpers, nd the rubber inserts are missing from the front bumper guards and there are a couple of small "dent-dimples" in the exterior body.
I have personally been all over, nder and around this car and it has NO rust to be seen! (maybe under the right-rear quarter panel?) It is solid metal and built like a tank--many more years of life in this Edsel!
Edsel.com says this model is valued at $7800-$8400 in class 3 condition, r about $12200-13000 in class 2 show condition. I believe this car is class 3 and can easily be put into show condition. (reserve is $6500)
