The Dodge Charger was first announced in 1964 as a competitor to the newest muscle cars from cross town rivals and was eventually produced in a variety of body styles and sizes. While the early 1966-1967 models were powerful and stylish, they didn't sell too well. It wasn't till the second and third generation models that the Charger really came into its own skin as a tough, powerful muscle car. The third generation model was introduced in 1971 and featured a new split grill, and a "coke body fuselage" body style.
