1935 Dodge KC Pickup
Dodge sailed into 1935 full of confidence, its light-duty trucks again little revised, but now carrying steel-roofed cabs with front-hinged doors. By now they didn't look so much like the passenger cars, which had received two styling facelifts, but the trucks didn't need any. Business was so good that production expanded into the Los Angeles and Canadian plants.
A standard-wheel-base KC pickup cost $480, which happened to be the same price as a half-ton Ford. Prices were low, because hardly anything was standard. Still, the options didn't cost much: $7 for chrome front bumper, $2 for a hood ornament, $3 for an air cleaner, $5 for safety-glass windshield. Biggest splurge was $15, which bought a chromed radiator shell and headlamps. This 1935 version presents to us in fully resorted condition will all the above options put on.
Exterior
For this half ton pickup, a full frame off restoration leaves us with a stunner only driven on and off show fields where it has collected a mass of awards particularly in AACA. Dipped in blue, suicide doors, a full chrome grille and radiator surround, chromed headlights, passenger side spare tire show off when driving it. All excellent surfaces no rust, a beautiful preserved and restored bed, and even a vinyl panel for the top to take just a bit of weight off and give room for all that extra chrome. Wire wheels with badged moon caps in the center are all around and on the passenger spare, are framed with black fenders and clean running boards.
Interior
A new original design with the long smooth black bench behind the original dash, with a cluster of gauges in the center. Nice utilitarian flooring and door panels are for work, not play, but it's OK to play! The original steering wheel fronts this dash and is in pristine condition. A heater box is installed, and the front windshield will flip out for flow through ventilation.
Drivetrain
201.3ci inline 6-cylinder fully restored engine provides the power to the rear wheels. A manual transmission is on back. Looking just great in this engine bay.
Undercarriage
Clean and rust free, obviously the beneficiary of the frame off restoration. Mechanical drum brakes all around, excellent sturdy X frame, blue floorpans, clean body hangers and running boards. All good underneath.
Drive-Ability
Excellent in a word, starts right up, and runs smoothly. A pleasure to drive. Even nicer to look at.
A better example will have to be really searched for, as this one is a true winner. Excellent build, all correct, all steel, and looking right out of the 1935 Dodge Brothers Showroom. Turn the key and collect the trophies.
