1964 Dodge Polara 500

426 Max Wedge Cross Ram

Build date September 8th 1963

The engine block is casting number 2406730 which is a 426 Cubic Inch Max Wedge engine.

The cylinder heads are aluminum heads from 440 Source

The heads have full aluminum roller rockers and heavy duty shafts and mounting stands and spacers.

The engine has 1 ¾” diameter full length headers

The intake manifold is casting number 2402726-1M. This is the ultra rare Magnesium Crossram. This is the 3rd version which has the larger throttle bores.

The camshaft, while the exact make and specs are unknown, has solid lifters and has a valve lift of .550”

The engine does not make sufficient vacuum for the power brakes due to the combination of camshaft specs, large volume intake plenum size and multiple carburetors, and the vacuum pump must be used for adequate braking.

The carburetors are originally made by Edelbrock and are number 1407. They have been rebuilt and re calibrated for this engine and now have the correct Carter carburetor number stamped on them strictly for aesthetics.

The distributor is a retro fit Mopar Performance electronic distributor and has been recurved for this application.

The ignition system uses an MSD Digital 6AL ignition box and an MSD Blaster 2 coil.

The bellhousing is a Chrysler cast iron housing unit which is an early style “blow proof housing”

The clutch is an 11 inch Borg & Beck style and appears to be fairly new.

The starter is a light weight race car style starter.

The transmission is a Chrysler 423 New Process transmission

The shifter is a factory style Hurst with custom super heavy duty shift linkage with spherical rod ends

The rear axle assembly is a Dana 60 retrofitted to this vehicle and has a positraction carrier.

The rear gear ratio is 3:54 to 1

The frame has weld in subframe connectors and heavy duty front spring boxes.

The car has power brakes and the front brakes are a disc conversion made by Wilwood.

There is a separate brake bias proportioning valve located near the master cylinder.

Drives Excellent And Can Cruise At Highway Speeds.

Body Is Very Solid - Appears To Be Original Sheet Metal.
