From 1979 to 1985, the hit television series Dukes of Hazzard entertained viewers across the world. In 2014, nearly 30 years after the final episode, AutoTrader created a memorable TV commercial featuring lead actors John Schneider and Tom Wopat. Like the TV series, the real star of the commercial was a flame orange Dodge Charger known as The General Lee. Filming all the stunts seen in the commercial required more than one Charger and that’s where Picture Car Warehouse stepped in. The company built a total of six General Lees for filming the commercial, including the “hero car”(#SGL3) offeredhere for auction. The hero car was built to perfection and was not used in any heavy mud, jump, or crash scenes but in the actor close-ups only.

Also featured in the December 2014 issue of Mopar Collector’s Guide, the car has the performance to back up its well-established image as a road-worthy racer. No expense was spared on the exceptional paint and body work or the 496CI / 540HP Stroker Big-Block V-8, built with Edelbrock aluminum heads and intake manifold, four-barrel carburetor, and Mallory ignition. A console-mounted B&M shifter controls the 3-speed automatic transmission, and a heavy-duty aluminum radiator and electric fan handle cooling duties. Disc brakes were also added to give the General Lee ample stopping power. Other built-in safety features include a full roll cage, front-end bracing, and fuel cell.
