1972 Dodge Dart Swinger
The Dart name originally appeared on a 1957 show car featuring a body designed by the Italian coach builder Carrozzeria Ghia. The production Dart was introduced as a lower-priced, shorter wheelbase, full-size Dodge in 1960 and 1961, became a mid-size car for 1962, and finally was a compact from 1963 to 1976.
This Custom 2-door hardtop coupe became known as the Swinger, and now for consignment, the beneficiary of a rotisserie restoration, this sweet mini muscle car is in near perfect condition. Dollar for dollar, this is the most fun you can have for your buck, and it is right here at Classic Auto Mall. Take a close look at the photos, and you will see exactly what I'm talking about.
Exterior
What is believed to be a respray of Pastel Yellow covers the exterior of this car. A golden yellow stripe runs from front to back at the belt line. Ultra clean chrome bumpers are present in front-with 2 rubber vertical bump bars, and in the rear, taillights inserted. Badging is all beautiful, as are handles and remaining brite work. An unscathed black vinyl top is present. Looking into the trunk you will the able to view perfect rust-free interior panels, and a like new liner which matches the original factory liner. Standard Mopar Rally wheels are on all 4 corners and present nicely.
Interior
Gold vinyl split bench seats upfront and a rear bench in back are virtually showroom. Consigner states that the bottom bolster in front was rebuilt, but otherwise the seats are original. Vinyl door panels are noted, and they match the seats. The inverted "V"shaped dash has original gauges, and an aftermarket tachometer attached to the steering column. A stock AM radio, and factory air conditioning is seen hanging from the underside of the dash. Gold carpeting is on the floor and looks like it just exited the showroom. The left rear window needs a provided crank installed, and consigner says the gas gauge it's not accurate, so he has provided a new one for the buyer to install.
Drivetrain
Pop open the hood and a gaze into the beautiful, clean engine bay we can see the 440ci 4-barrel engine that came from a 1969 New Yorker. It has been returned to a stock motor, with work done and a small cam installed. Behind the engine, we see a 727 Torqueflite automatic transmission, which puts power back to an 8.75" geared limited slip differential.
Undercarriage
Not unlike the topside, some major work has been performed here as well. Including the K member changed to accommodate a big block. Big sway bars were installed in front and in back. 4-wheel power disc brakes are all around, and frame and other components underneath are very clean, true, and rust free.
Drive-Ability
All is fine on the Dodge boys front, and with this car, which ran fine, handled well, and everything is in working order. Its cornering is solid, braking straight with no pull and it has some snappy acceleration.
All the work is done for you, and the car runs better and stronger than showroom new. This 3-owner car really has been well re-done and is an eye catcher. Very affordable car for the MOPAR buff to gain entry into the world of a classic. And what an entry it will be!
