Car description

This is a 1968 Dodge Coronet model 440. It has 96,071 original miles. The factory exterior color is Turbine Bronze Poly Metallic.

The interior is "Tuxedo" style (Black headliner, carpet and dashboard; White door cards and seats). This car was original equipped with Factory air conditioning and comes with most (but not all...no condenser) of the components to return it to a functioning system. The dash pad is in excellent condition as is the headliner.

Originally equipped as a bench seat car this Coronet now has 69 Dodge Charger buckets with a buddy seat in the middle. The original rear seat is still there both front and rear seats will need to be recovered. The original door cards are in place, but not all the Hardware attached to the door cards is accounted for.( i.e 3 of 4 door armrests missing).

The AM radio is original to the car but does not function. All the gauges do work though. In short the interior would not need much to make it perfect; a carpet, new door cards, armrests and seat covers, would pretty much cover what you need to make it nice.

As for the drivetrain, this Coronet was originally equipped with a 318 cubic inch V8, but now currently has a 1970 (F 440 stamped) 440 cubic inch motor with a forged crank. This is a non HP motor that came from a full size Plymouth wagon. The motor has approximately 60k miles on it, has a performance camshaft and "452" unleaded heads. It also has hooker competition headers and an Edelbrock 750 cfm carburetor with electric choke. There is a Mopar performance orange box electronic ignition and distributor. This engine sounds great and it's very healthy. The 26" radiator is fresh, but you will need to source a repro fan shroud for it. The Coronet starts, moves and stops on its own, but is not public road worthy without a thorough going over of the basics; (Tires to start with...They are old!) Speaking of which the old tires are mounted on Magnum 500 rims Circa 1969 style.( trim rings didn't come with them!)

The 727 3-speed automatic is in good condition with a stock converter and the 8 3/4 rear axle has a 2.76:1 Non Sure-Grip Rear. There is currently NO exhaust system on this vehicle from the headers back.

The front drum brakes are long gone and in their place is a factory disc brake conversion along with Hemi torsion bars! The transmission crossmember the torsion bars attachment points are all in excellent condition. All of this work was done by the previous long-term owner.

As you can see the general condition of the body of the car is in very decent. While a proper restoration would be needed to make the car perfect, all the important essential areas are very solid. They include the trunk area, the trunk extensions, the front and rear floors (there's one small spot on the passenger side floor that would need repair, but it's no bigger than 6"x 2"). The inner Fender Wells both front and rear, are in excellent shape; the radiator crossmember,  the inner engine bay aprons, the firewall, all very important areas to be solid for a proper and less costly Mopar restoration, are all in very decent shape. I have an abundance of pictures that I can provide the prospective buyer at their request.

The outside body has a few replacement panels; drivers fender has been replaced with another oem used factory piece(still needs a patch repair on the bottom of it!), passenger door has been replaced with oem used original as well. The original hood(not on car, have picture avail) has been stripped of its exterior paint and is ready for prepping and new paint. I also have some matching colored Mopar OEM '69 style hood scoops. They are missing their Chrome bezels and 440 call outs, but those are easily obtained today in the aftermarket. The Scoops themselves are original Mopar! I also have some Driver side rear quarter patch panels that go with the vehicle in addition to all the model 440 trim and rocker moldings.

The passenger side quarter appears to have been dented at some point in its life, pulled out and looks kind of warbly, so the proper thing to do would be to replace it. The trunk lid like most 1968 Coronet trunk Lids has its issues. The passenger side rear most lip on the trunk lid needs to be reworked as does a little bit of the underside but the other three corners are in excellent shape. I looked around for a used trunk lid but with the prices they're asking for them, I believe that if you could get a good metal person to work on it, you could fix what you have and be new again.

The windshield is cracked and will be need to be replaced. I have a variety of spare parts that came with this car which include the following: heater blower motors and ducting; trim pieces for the exterior, air conditioning compressor brackets pulleys and some of the hoses, most of which have been repainted and are in excellent condition; I can provide photos.

In addition I have the original owners manual, a supplementary owners manual with a Certi-Card in it, a Warranty Booklet, a Build Sheet, A Fender Tag and the last Connecticut Issued Title and registration for this vehicle and a Bill Of Sale to the winning Bidder. I also have the camshaft specifications on a little piece of cardboard from the original camshaft box and a small pint of the original paint color.

If you know what you're looking at and you request the pictures that I have, you can make an honest assessment that this is a solid car. There's a lot of folks out there selling a lot of junk for crazy money. While this vehicle is not a perfect "10", it is far nicer than most in which to start a restoration. From this standpoint, the Coronet is a solid base to start with and you'll save a lot of money in restoration costs along the way. I have set the vehicle to be NO Reserve starting at $8,500. The auction will run for 7 days. Winner of the auction is responsible for prompt deposit via PayPal within 24 hours and full payment is due within 7 days. Buyer is responsible for making arrangements to have the car picked up via trailer or carrier. I am more than willing to speak to interested parties in the Coronet. If you have an eBay history that contains less than 10 sales or purchases, please contact me before bidding. Happy Bidding to all and Thank You Very Much.
