Car description

Selling this 1961 Dodge Lancer four door sedan, which I have owned for a couple years now. 770 model, powered by a170 CI slant six engine andtorqueflite six pushbutton operated automatictransmission. It has manual steering and manual drum brakes. The overall condition of the car is good, from the standpoint of sheetmetal integrity, interior quality, and drivetrain/driveability quality. That said, the sheetmetal has some rust that needs attention, particularly in the lower doors (bubbling under the paint), surface rust in the rockers.I didsome body work that could use finishing (I did some work to the rear quarters, filling some dings, and filled thestrip below the trunk lid, as well straightening and filling the lower valance below the rear bumper). These areas were not rusted, but had some damage. They were treated and painted promptly, during dry weather,so they should not be subject to future rustissues. The area below the gas cap is discolored due to gas spillage on newer paint that caused the paint to wrinkle.Thepassenger side front fender is missing the trim spear below the body line. There is no major damage or any accidents that have affected driveability. The car is tight (that is, there are no places where water leaks, and the weatherstripping has been replaced around doors such that exterior noise is minimized).I have found no rust in the trunk floor, floor pans, orlower quarters, areas where these cars often developed rust out. The interior has been redone at some point, and has held up well. There are a couple small holes and some discoloration in places (along the edges)on the white headliner (sun visors were redone as well); the seats, door panels, and carpeting are good driver quality. The dash/instrument clusterisin good shape, with some imperfections in the dash paint, butthe chrome surrounding the instruments still very nice. An aftermarket am/fm/cd player was added, with the original radio left in the dash, and the box built for the cd player tastefully done. The instruments are functional, save for the fuel gauge, which I believe is due to a faulty gas tank sending unit, as I grounded the sending unit wire and the gauge went to full, and, it was working properly when I purchased the car. The heater and blower controls work properly, though some alterations were necessary to facilitate the heat shut off within the cab. Since the cable originally operating the heat control valve was broken, and the heat control valve missing, I utilized the cigarette lighter cavity to put in a substitute cable control, which runs to an aftermarket inline heat control valve in the engine compartment. This controlknobfits nicely behind the closed ashtray door, the locationproviding a direct route through the original cable routing, andthrough theheater box on the the firewall, to the new valve plumbed into the heater hose. During this fix the heater core was recored, along with a new thermostat, and engine water pump. The interior lights all work, including the lighted push button controls. As to driveability, the Lancer drives straight, accelerates andstops well(all drum brake linings were replaced). The torqueflite six shiftssmoothly and at proper points in acceleration. Fourteen inch wheels replace the original thirteens, with brand new tires in the same aspect ratio as the smaller originals so the speedometer remains accurate. As mentioned, I replaced the cooling system components, and fixed theexhaust heat riser valve for good warm-ups, as well as added a heat riser to aircleaner system, to pipe hot manifold airdirectly to the air cleaner (the heat riser tubing is not pictured but is included withthe car). Tune up components were changed out, including new points, distributor cap/rotor, and spark plugs. The Lancer ran good when I bought it,runs better now. There are still things that need attention, including the transmission needing resealed, as there is a leak in the seal from shifter cable entrance, and may be some fluid dripping from pan gasket as well. The passenger windshield wiper post splines were stripped during operation, so the wiper just flopped to the side. Included in sale is a used replacement with goodsplines, which attaches from under the dash to the wiper armature, up through the cowl, towhich thewiper affixes. I drove without it and had no problems with visibility, butwanted to provide a complete car to new owner. The original service manual is included with sale as well.I added somecustom touches to the car in the form of fender spears and a hood ornament, and replaced the taillight lenses with 59 Caddy taillights (they fit the original cavity nicely), and the turn signal lenses with orange "beehive" lenses; these werethings I thought made the car look more like itmoved through space with some "aerodynamic flair". The original taillights come with the car. I am selling this car due toa major change in the space I have available to keep it. It captured my attention, and I had many plans to continueit's restoration/transformation.The sale of the car with this auction includes the following conditions: 1) the car is sold as is 2) the buyer will provide shipping 3) a payment ofone thousanddollars is due at time of sale, with the remainder ofpurchase price due within one week (seven days) of close of auction.
