1917 Dodge Brothers Touring Car
The Dodge Brothers made a fortune as a key supplier and shareholders of Ford Motor Company. When Henry Ford bought out their Interest in Ford Motor Company, the Dodge Brothers established their own auto manufacture in 1914 - producing their first cars for the 1915 model year. Dodge Brothers vehicles were very advanced, reliable, rugged, and economical. They were immediately successful. The initial Dodge Brothers design was so great - went un-changed for over 10 years.
One of the best elements of the Dodge Brothers cars was their use of a 12-volt electrical system which results in excellent starting and operating performance. It is also much easier to service in our modern times.
This car is finished in very dark brown on the body tub with black frame, fenders, radiator, hood, and upholstery. The effect is very striking.
The Hayes wire wheels are a very rare option that transforms the car - giving it a much more sporty appearance compared to the standard wood artillery wheels.
This car had spent its life in the State of Michigan sold new in Jackson, MI. The wire wheels are a rare and sporty option. The car has been comprehensively restored from the frame-up to a very good quality. The paint finish is exceedingly good. Upholstery is also excellent. The following is a list of items that could be tweaked if interested in showing the car competitively:
- The limited amount of bright-workwas chrome plated rather than nickel plated (Not very noticeable but an easy correction since there is so little that is plated)
- The carpeting is of a modern style, would be improved by replacing with linoleum or a wool based carpet
- The wiring of the car was done in modern vinyl insulated wiring instead of cloth braided wiring
- The wire wheels were painted without great attention to filling all of the pitting (look great until you look very closely at them)
- The speedometer needs to be serviced as it does not show the speed (the odometer is working). Probably needs to be magnetized.
