FYI, I want this car gone now. Reserve is much lower than the 2013 appraisal and could be surpassed given the right buyers BUT PLEASE be aware that it is subject to a local sale which could end this auction early. REMEMBER, I want it gone now so if someone who's seen it before decides to PONY UP now that it's running again and WILL SOON BE STREET DRIVEABLE, that is okay with me. I am presently finishing up an effort on both the braking system and the exhaust installation as well as random seals.
Car was appraised in 2013 for $199,875 and again just days ago for a greater amount. A premium was assessed due to; - 32 of 40 items classified as show ready - color combination - option level - documentation included - strong survivor qualitiesThe premium, while assessed conservatively by the professional appraiser, is considered by some to be low due to the overall survivor condition and inclusions the car possesses, especially the color combo and option level. It's a LOADED, RED ON RED, 25,000 MILE, 1970 426 HEMI CHALLENGER R/T SURVIVOR after all and, BTW, the original owner was ALIVE AND WELL when I last spoke to him a few months ago. HE custom ordered this Challenger. Thank ME for saving it but you can likely personally THANK HIM FOR ORDERING IT should you choose to do what some seem unwilling and/or unable to do and that is to just BUY IT!
This is believed to be one of four built as a solid red car with a red interior and a HEMI in the 1970 Challenger model year.
All four cars still exist to my knowledge. One has a 4 speed. The other three are Torqueflite equipped. Two have presentable original paint and this is one of them. Only one of the four has power windows (THIS ONE). This is the lowest mile car of the four as best I recall and it also carries the most options.
Car is a survivor but will benefit from more hands on attention to details as it did not escape the previous owner unmolested. The original owner installed headers on it and had the internals tweaked. It is running OEM standard pistons but I believe the aluminum rods installed in the early 70s are still reciprocating within.
Cam seems stock but it also has a Milodon oiling system on it though I do have a stock oil pan to go with it.
Transmission also has a reverse pattern manual valve body in it at present
The hood is not on the car as it was sent out for a chemical dip/strip and came back with some issues so those issues need to be resolved unless you'd prefer to just plop a shaker on it which will happen if I don't sell it first which is mylatest preference anyway. Aside from the hood issue, the exterior appearance of the car is complete and stunning as the coming pics will soon show.
Car sat dormant and indoors for years and had not been run or driven since the early 90s until it's recent start up.
Car will soon be street driveable and will be placed outdoors in sunlight for fresh pictures which I will post here.
Ithasn't seen rain since the 70s which is when I purchased it.
Most details are correct on the car as you might expect with 25,000 intact miles having been accumulated.
Most of the paint is original.
Refinished 15x7 Rally wheels are correctly coded for the car with correct rings, caps, lug nuts, and eventhe center cap retainer bolts.
New reproduction F60-15 NO SIZE RWL Goodyear Polyglas tires are in place.
A Glen Ray reproduction 956 radiator is in place.
New trans lines are in place as is the vintage original trans cooler.
Exhaust system is complete with new ECS H pipe and resonators along with solid original mufflers, manifolds, hangers, and tips.
Correct early production hood with no crush indents is included as mentioned above but it needs a refinish and installation.
3438178 alternator core with compatible date code while included is incorrect (build sheet specifies a 3438176 alternator).
Mopar electronic ignition was fitted in the 70s and is still in place. The harness for it has just been replaced with a new retrofit harness allowing for electronic ignition.
Rebuilt 4024SA Carter fuel pump coded L-9 is in place. Yes the carbs are the correct originals, too.
Jack is complete, in place, andis also coded 9L.
A space saver tire is included as is a fill bottle with a repro labeland the original bottle hold down bracket.
The original trunk mat is included though it carries the patina of random stains, blemishes, and rips. (ECS has recently reproduced the trunk mats faithfully FYI.)
Upholstery is original as is the carpet. Only a split in the driver seat bottom mars the appearance of the seats and the carpet can benefit greatly from a thoughtful light cleaning effort.
All glass is original and nice.
New, premium reproduction red door panels were acquired for it and I also have the originals too.
I HAVE THE THREE ORIGINAL BUILD SHEETS andalso have color copies of thoseoriginals, too.
Copies of the original window sticker, sales order, and bill of sale are included as provided to me by the original owner. The originals, still in the hands of the original owner, MIGHT also be available if I can persuade him.
This car has the potential to yield the smart MOPAR muscle enthusiast/investor handsomely with the prestige of it's stewardship as well as with an impressive financial return. If you have the vision and perspicacity and means necessary to move forward on it's purchase, I would highly encourage you to fly in for a personal inspection NOW. I want it gone NOW and this is your opportunity to win handsomely and smartly or choke and lose out.
Worth noting is the fact that, historically, before the TV show Nash Bridges popularized the Cuda, Challengers generally fetched more in the marketplace. With the reissue of the NEW Challengers, is it a real surprise that the logical trend for vintage Challengers to regain their rightful place in the market would return? Their production numbers were below those of the lesser priced Barracuda after all and they still carry one of the most timeless and beautifully styled bodies of any car ever built anywhere. This isn't meant to denigrate any Cuda but merely to point out the smaller production numbers of the Challenger which makes them harder to buy and harder to quantify nearly 50 years after their introduction. Both are stunning styling examples from the golden age of the AMERICAN MUSCLECAR ERA and will always remain so! While the hardtops are not the HOLY GRAIL the convertibles are considered to be, they are more affordable and easier to liquidate...unless you demand options, some virginity, and a stunning color combo...like this car possesses as few others do.
The convertibles, while more fun with the top down are not MANY MANY times more fun than the hardtop E body HEMI is...plushow many E body HEMI convertibles are loaded, basically virgin, and red/red?
