Car description |
---|
In 1959 Dodge started streamlining the design of their pickup trucks, eliminating the tail fins of earlier models and creating a more functional square bed. This new "Sweptline"design featured large flat panelswith clean crease lines sweeping from front to back anda signature "check" near the back. This model also featured integrated cab steps that are concealed by the doors and a full-width hood, a drop-center frame with a fuel-efficient overhead valve slant 6 engine and a roomy cab with a clean and functional dash design.1971 was the last year that Dodge made the Sweptline pickup series and itwas also the last year the Hancock Old car dealership that originally sold this truck was located at 505 Cerrillos Rd. in Santa Fe (now Talin Market). The back bumper is engraved with HANCOCK OLDINC SANTA FE, NM.
I bought this truck in 1990 and have done regular routine maintenance and kept her running during the 29,000 miles she's been driven since then, with mostly local drivin, trips to the lumberyard and country outings. Main items from the slant-6 engine to the dog dish hubcaps are original. The bench seat was reupholstered just a few years ago.The truck is driveable on slower streets but the steering pulls to the right when the brakes are applied hard. Needs work to be a daily driver. There is rust on the floorboard and lower door panels so it's also in need of bodywork, paint and other typical upgrades to restore it to all its glory.
Great truck to start with for a renovation project.
Comes with maintenance records, original Dodge Truck Manual and Supplement, a copy of Clymer's Dodge D100-350, 1971-1982 Shop Manual, Original paint sample sheet and a reproduction of the 1971 D100 Operator's Manual.
