Car description |

You're bidding on a 1970 Dodge Charger RT 440 Magnum!! Although technically, I can't call it a barn find, I can call it a storage find!! This car has terrific patina, seems to be extremely straight in its body panels, and yes - it runs and drives!!
This and a number of other cars sat in a storage location for years, but recently became available. I picked this and one other car up, and although I love these cars (I had one in the late 1970's when I was in the Marine Corps), I am more a classic car guy, and would hope this could go to someone that could truly appreciate, and potentially, restore it. After working on it a few hours with my son, we got it running and driving (again, I Have a video I could pass along). Seemed to be strong, and although there was a hint of smoke coming from the tail, I attribute that to the Marvels Mystery oil I had put in the cylinders and worked through prior to starting. Let's go over some details:
Body: As you can see from the pictures, the body appears very straight. Although it needs paint, I did not try to buff out the paint to see if I could bring it back and will leave that to the new owner (if they so decide). The vinyl top will need replacing, and I cannot vouch for what you may find underneath the vinyl as I am not willing to strip it. You'll see the back deck behind the rear window looks to have some very minor rust, and will need attention if you're going to restore it. I can take and send pictures of lower parts of the panels upon request, but there was nothing significantly wrong down there either.
Undercarriage: I have a bunch of pictures of the undercarriage that I can pass along upon request. It's basically very light surface rust, but nothing more. Everything appears straight with one interesting area that I would point out if pictures requested.
Engine: As you can see by the picture, the engine appears to be all there. This engine runs, and I will attempt to attach a 5 second video of that to the auction. If I cannot, I will furnish it upon request. I would absolutely recommend the following: 1) dropping the tank and cleaning that and the lines out, and 2) a carb rebuild just to be sure, 3) replacing all fluids, and 4) a full tune-up. The car sounds great when running, but you can hear some missing.
Mileage: Although it shows VERY low mileage on the odometer, and the numbers ALL align so very well, I have no way of verifying the mileage. I'm sure if someone wants to do a VIN search to see what the history looks like, they can do so. I have to say that upon looking at the undercarriage, this car was either restored, or really does have VERY low miles on it.
Interior: Although there is some wrinkling in the door panel vinyl, the entire interior looks amazing for the car's age!! I can take more detailed pics upon request, but with a good cleanup and conditioning, this interior would sparkle once more!! You'll also see that the car has factory air conditioning, which has not been tested.
Transmission: This is an automatic that appears to shift fine for the few times I drove it. I would absolutely recommend a transmission tune-up for it, though.
Again, this car is amazing for the year, and it will make someone VERY happy to get it and clean and drive it as is, or become a phenomenal base car to restore from. My sense is that when purchased new, either a guy was having a mid-life crisis and wanted an amazing stock bullet of a car to get around in, or he bought it for his wife as an excuse to get it and drive it when he could. Why do I say that? The amenities: power steering and brakes, automatic transmission, air conditioning.
The reserve is reasonable (given the rare make, options, type and condition of this car). At the moment, there is no Buy It Now price, but I could entertain reasonable ideas, but please don't waste my time. If you waste my time with bogus or silly offers, I will consider banning you from the auction. Buyer is responsible for arranging and paying for ALL shipping. A non-refundable $1,000 payment via Paypal is due within 24 hours of the completion of the auction. The remaining balance for the vehicle will be by wire transfer or certified check within 7 days of the completion of the auction, and all costs of the payment transaction will be paid for by the seller (ie, wire transfer fees). Car must be removed within 14 days of the completion of the auction, and I will assist the shipper where I can and within reason.
Please let me know if you have any questions BEFORE THE AUCTION ENDS. I reserve the right to end the auction at any time as the car is also for sale in other publications. And there are no returns on this item.
