Description 1968 Dodge Charger R/T
Listed on behalf of the owner.
Located in PORTLAND, OREGON.
This Charger was built on May 17, 1968 at the Hamtramck, Michigan factory. Special ordered originally with white paint and white vinyl top, red vinyl interior with bucket seats. Power was from the 440 V8 with originally a 3-speed automatic. After making its way to Texas, this car passed through several owners over the years and was a bit worse for wear until being acquired by the current owner who had been looking for a '68 factory 440 car. He then set out on what would become a high-end, professional, 9-year restoration by the Muscle Rod Shop in San Antonio that was just finished early in 2017. The result is spectacular.
When purchased by the current owner, the original 440 engine had previously been changed to a 6 cylinder(!), so a correct, date-coded 440 Magnum V8 was located and completely rebuilt. Bored .040 over standard with upgraded cam for better driveability. Single Holley 4 barrel carburetor, as original. The engine is speced at 375 HP @ 4400 rpm and rated 0 to 60mph in 6.5 seconds. The drivetrain was fully rebuilt. The only deviation from stock was the installation of a correctly date-coded 4-speed manual transmission with Centerforce clutch, which seemed better suited for the 440 than the original Torqueflite automatic. The front brakes were also upgraded to disc. Polished rallye wheels wrapped with new B.F. Goodrich radial T/A tires. This car hits the road running and never looks back. It's fast (and loud, when wanted), shifts and handles better than new.
The body underwent a comprehensive rotisserie restoration, including replacement of the floor and quarter panels, along with replacement of all wear parts, nuts and bolts. Paint was stripped to bare metal and repainted in correct white (as original) with added burgundy striping at the rear. Exceptional fit and finish throughout. For a sleeker look, it was restored without the addition of a vinyl top. The entire interior was replaced (except for the original upper door panels) in correct deep red vinyl, as original. All chrome was polished. All accessories work, including the hideaway headlights, "Tick-Tock Tach" clock, upgraded stereo and the new air conditioning system routed through the original outlets. Over $25,000 was spent just on the metal and paint work, which will give you some idea of the quality of this build. Add to that $30,000 spent on the engine/drivetrain/mechanicals/interior/parts and assembly, (all in addition to the original cost of the car!) and you can tell that no corners were cut. (Yes, receipts from the restoration are available.)
There is little to add. If you're looking for a finely restored Charger R/T for show or go, this is a great one! Take a look at the photo and video link below for full details.
A realistic reserve has been placed on this car, WELL BELOW the cost of restoration. Please bid accordingly.
WE WILL HAPPILY SELL TO BIDDERS WORLDWIDE.
